Surviving Minnesota!

They make a statement-- that's for sure...

I had one Christmas guest ask me if I "bought them at Target or something?"

I laughed at her and said, "nope."

I love that they are sheik and not from Target. That's the best part.

O M Gosh! I am in this conversation totally and now I realize that I have not greeted you yet today.

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .

Snow, wind, cold, Minnesota. Its nice to be homw in gud ole Minni-sota. Winter has arrived. I am going to go the ice buckets out so I can make that thar outdoor Christmas decoration that someone - BT? Coffee? someone posted last year. I made two up in Aitkin just to try them out and they were pretty cool. I will take pictures when they are up and working so the rest of you can see them - again.

Took homemade dog food out to the flock this a.m. and everyone chowed on that. I will be checking my flock often today because . . . . they are MY flock!

Ralphie - checking my list of acronyms and toad is not on it. Please . . .

What does toad mean again? And there is one more I will ask about and add to the list. I just dunno which acronym it is right now.

Toad is not an acronym. It is the name of the breed. It is my own creation, I started calling toads a few years ago. They are the ones you made the cool dress for. Which I have removed as she has all her feathers again.

I have a few boys in that group that are becoming Xmas dinners. The boys are the HUGE ones.

They are a "barnyard" cross, Cx to CX gives you a frog,,,, CX to Rainbow gives you a Lizard, Lizard to CX gives you a toad, every generation after in a toad, Toad to toad.... complicated I know.

I didn't know there was a lizard stage before a toad. That is new to me!

So I have this cold. Lottsa 'breathe' tea and some pills. But I am using this stick stuff I purchased at the Renaissance this past year. I am stinky! One is for Migraine and Headache relief (Camphor, Peppermint & Eucalyptus Essential Oils) and the other is for sore muucles - Spicy Ice - which does not tell me the essential oils included. They are helping alot! Ready to start the 'Throat Coat' tea.

The chicks are endearing their selves to the flock. Those six birds are so friendly. They want to be picked up and held and petted. Sure makes it fun to raise birds. No more hatchery birds after this. Either it has to be a fertilized egg slipped under a broody hen or hmmmm . . . . I have no or to back up my intentions. Anyway, when that time comes I am coming to you chickeners. Wellsummer, Buckeye. Those two for sure.

Gotta get through the winter first. LOL.

A slowish day today. Working on a program that is slow running. I make a few tweaks, sit and wait for it to run, make a few tweaks... zzzzzzz

Gives me time to daydream about my pasture plan. Still trying to decide on the fencing. On the plus side, I found out there is an auction house just up in zumbrota that sells cattle, dairy, pigs, sheep, and goats. Looks like a fun place which will be a good resource when we are ready to stock the farm.

Got a email yesterday that my sawmill shipped . Got back from hunting and wife said I had a message to set up delivery . Uh oh secret is out . She never asked what I ordered or how much I spent . Hmm did I win a argument or is she going to strangle me while I sleep ? Waiting for the other shoe to drop .

I must say I missed the "frog" and "lizard" stages myself. I must have come into it just as GenToad was starting....?

Ivie: If you get more essential oils...mist yourself with some Thieves (smells like Christmas--> luckily-lol) and a couple nights of hot brandies. (Hot water, lemon squeeze, raw honey, & a shot of brandy) It worked great for me. Makes you sleepy too.

Ivie: This is the best Hen Saddle I've seen to date. Check this out:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/424354/free-chicken-apron-saddle-pattern/200#post_17822052

I just spent 2 hours in my carhartts. With the Chickens. Do not think less of me chickeneers, but I was not a good girl scout this fall and have just now plugged in the electric cords and battened down the plastic that the last winter storm tore apart. New plastic on the run...just makes all the difference in the world for those birds. That run just got a whole lot cozier. I moved the water to my plug in --in the coop. It had been in the run the whole time. switching it out with another waterer each day had been working well with temps in the 30's. Even when it went down to some 20's at night. I just take off the little crusts of ice or switch. Well Old Man Winter has reared his ugly face out there...and its cold. So the procrastinator that I am I just took my lunch hour and then some to get situated again. Depoop-piled a bit....Fresh shavings on top of the older ones. Filled the feeder... Comfy Cozy in there. Let the winter winds blow.
