Surviving Minnesota!

I am down to one Guinea. I sold 6 and ended up getting rid of 7.

I had put them in cages this morning 3 to a cage. When moving them to the buyers cage one of the guineas flew up and got his or her head stuck in the cage corner. I immediately freed it. everything looked good. When I reached into the cage the guineas went nuts, again.

I grabbed her and placed her (had to be a her based on IQ)

..... It rolled over like a dog playing dead and went in convulsions. The woman buying the guineas started in "oh no, Oh no" Her little girl started crying "It's dying, Is it dead"....

Well, wouldn't you know it.. It either can play a very convincing "dead" or it died. I told her not to worry, I would get her another one... I took the dead one and the woman asled what you going to do with it?

I said, "Bleed it out and eat it, no sense letting it go to waste".

So As I passed the tree with the homemade killing cone in it, I slipped it in and took it's head off with the hatchet....

Well, guess what?

Yep, another round of crying and screaming ensued.... I ignored the crying went and got another Guinea (my purple one) and brought it to her. She asked what I did with the old one when I took its head off, I told her" I made sure it wasn't just playing dead to not go with you"... She actually laughed a little and said " really"...

I told her "Yep, Guneas can;t be trusted" Then I added, "Actually I just wanted to let the blood drip out before I finish cleaning it"

She was fine with it and even the little girls had stopped crying....

So I am down to one Guinea,,,,The white one I refused to let Holm have last year..... Maybe I should eat it too.hmmmm

Guinea is resting until she can be roasted in a few days..

I was afraid I was not feeding the guineas enough. That fear was misplaced.

Look at the fat!!!

I should have cut their rations in half.

And on her back even, I threw away a bunch when I cleaned her too

Should be Yummy!

Sounds like community dinner should take place at ralphies.

Oh yeah I'll even bring a dish to pass!!

So the dumb five are still getting used to being able to be out whenever they choose though one is a escapist. They are learning to be their own flock.. and no casualties yet.i did find some old raccoon scat in the coop. Had to be dang old since I havnt done much in the coop for 2 years and it basically petrified. So let's continue to hope they moved on.

Ralphie what all do you plan on bringing to the auction next weekend? You need vet papers to bring birds right?

Just some excess cockerels that are running around... Three from Ralphie and three from my birds...

The EE's are cool,,,you should keep them all..

I am planning on keeping at least one of them. We will see. I am going to have a lot of roosters going into winter this year I am afraid lol. I really like the Blue Barred Cockerel. He is stunning. But I will probably keep the biggest of those three and either rehome the rest or cull... I wanna have two roosters of each breed I have for breeding next spring. I want two Orp roosters and two Buckeyes for sure and then an EE roo so I can make some EEs for layers.
