Surviving Minnesota!

Guess what birds decided to start laying again? The Orps! Hopefully the roo is doing his job and they are fertile! I let them out for awhile yesterday so they could ***get some exercise***

I am planning on keeping at least one of them. We will see. I am going to have a lot of roosters going into winter this year I am afraid lol. I really like the Blue Barred Cockerel. He is stunning. But I will probably keep the biggest of those three and either rehome the rest or cull... I wanna have two roosters of each breed I have for breeding next spring. I want two Orp roosters and two Buckeyes for sure and then an EE roo so I can make some EEs for layers.

If you would get your WEGBY (npip) stuff done, I would not have to keep so many roosters, I could come and get one of yours when mine die.....

Happy to hear you are still among us.

I need to get some work done in my garden, the only thing I've done so far is pull dandelion weeds for the chicks. I pulled weeds from around the apple trees too, I really hope to get apples this year I think it's the 4th year now since I planted them. Except the one I replaced last spring. I put it in the same spot as the one that died then heard you're not supposed to do that. But I suppose that would be important if it was disease that killed it. I don't know why it died,

it was a Wolf River so should have been plenty hardy for this area.

Hi Cluckies - whered ya go? Here is a little summary - not alot of yak yak going on. Others will jump in here because I am not going to look back. Lottsa chicks hatched. Jerry is on his way up for a couple of weeks. Judy had some surgery and Ralphie is taking excellent care of her. Go back two days ago and read Ralphies accounting of sending Guineas off to another home. Holm is busy. Bogtown is running around like crazy with kids stuff although she did celebrate Cinco by herself; MOM had a cute story about her daughter and chickens - I think - and MNChickMom (or was it MOM) has finished up some tests on her graduate work. One she passed with a very high grade (hint: the highest a person can get) and the second test she did not think she did as well on.

What else? Oh! ILL is running and hurdling, Bogtowns son is golfing with some pretty decent scores; Yeah - my mind . . . .

Update here

Bresse are in breeding pen and laying well. Cochins a need to pick it up a bit as I'm getting one egg a day from the same hen. I'm going to put Bielefelder pair in a breeding pen tonight I will probably have to AI the hen since Archie is pretty lazy. Leghorns and Naked Necks are all doing well and are liking being in the coop so far. Kittens are running around the house amd terrorizing my room. We now have 2 bottle calves as of yesterday, we had another set of twins.
I'm not the only state qualifier anymore, my friend Skylar qualified in girls long jump yesterday.

Hi Cluckies. It's hard to keep up with BYC this time of year. I imagine the thread will get quieter and quieter with summer coming full force.

Well we were over at a friend's house grilling steaks to go with morels when a call came in on my cell phone. Jerry and his DW were near Spooner WI when the transmission in his truck went out. A little hillier there and with the trailer and such. His truck couldn't take it. So much to his disappointment he won't be in his favorite town tonight. He needs to figure how to sneak a box full of chicks and a dog into a Super 8 and get some heat on the chicks.

Ivie he says he'll try to catch up with you . They are trying to get it all sorted with a truck rental. But delayed definitely a day. Maybe two.
