We feel the same way about "city hunters" here in the fall. As DH was informing one hunter that he was trespassing on the land he was on, the guy actually told him how they do us such a favor by coming out here to hunt. Sure, they may boost the economy a little, but I don't know that it's enough to put up with the garbage in the ditches, trespassing, and general rudeness. Many of them come with their own ammo and food, so how are they helping, exactly? DH told him, "That's great, can I get your address? I want to go throw trash on your front lawn, set up my tent, and block your driveway so you can't get to work." (That's another problem - duck hunting and harvest often coincide, so we have the extra traffic on the roads from both farm machinery and people in such a hurry they are dangerous when trying to get around said machinery.)The difference in a tourist and a weekender is simply...Someone you know and like is a weekender...
Someone you do not know and may not even care for is a tourist...
Tourists are for me the ones that drive through my yard on 4-wheelers and snowmobiles.... or stop and "hike through" my woods just looking for flowers, butterflies, a place to picnic or whatever.. and the worst offenders are the ones looking to relieve themselves, whether it be one or two...
I wish they would leave their addresses so if I am in their city I could look for flowers, butterflies, a place to picnic or relieve myself if I wanted too..
The nerve of her! You poor guy! (OK, that's all the sympathy I could muster. I tried.)I might be in a surly mood. I am in need of a new wife. My old one has refused to perform a wifely duty. She is adamant about it.
I have a turkey hen that has a slightly anti-social personality,,,think of her as Siggie on steroids and tourists...
She hisses when we get within 15 feet of her nest. We really are not sure which turkey she is... I risked my life today to remove the screws from the plywood over her head so it can be lifted up.
I, being the man, am willing to do the heavy lifting. I have asked my soon to be ex-wife to simply reach under the turkey hen and remove the chicken eggs....
This is the wifely duty she is refusing me.... What choice do I have but to get rid of her?
Is anyone interested in some pre-started hatching eggs? I have no idea what they are but I assume PC and or SS... All you need to do is stop by and pick them up....
I need them out before they hatch and she abandons the turkey eggs. I hate mixed nests. If I was God I would have made all farm birds have the same incubation period....It would allow me to keep the old wife...
Also anyone interested in applying for the new wife position, please PM me...Thanks
Tied for second in high jump! So excited and happy right now!
I like this set upCongrats layers. Good luck to everyone keeping the tourists at bay. I agree that city hunters are the worst.
I thought I would share a neat culling station my husband created. He doesn't get all the credit though, his uncle built something similar but with a stainless steel trough. We are just poor chickeners so 5 gallon pail did the trick. Ps road cones are on sale at northern tool for less than $8.View attachment 1020862 View attachment 1020863 View attachment 1020867 View attachment 1020862 View attachment 1020863 View attachment 1020867 View attachment 1020862 View attachment 1020863 View attachment 1020867
Nice culling station! I may have to show these pictures to DH before the next processing day!Congrats layers. Good luck to everyone keeping the tourists at bay. I agree that city hunters are the worst.

Your fishing story reminds me of when my oldest was about 5. We were fishing at a neighbor's on the opening day of the season. They have a big rock pile that goes down into the lake that attracts fish and is big enough for several of us to sit on and fish without interfering with one another. We started catching fish, so this boat comes and anchors about 10' from where we were casting. (I don't know exactly how close they were, but they were way too close) The adults on the rock pile were grumbling and mumbling about how we should just start bouncing our sinkers off the boat. My sweet little child piped up and said, very loudly, "Hey, Dad! Can we throw rocks at them?" Before DH or I could respond, my neighbor said (just as loudly), "Why, yes, Son, yes you can!" The boat moved.Ralphie and Bobbi-j I hear ya about garbage and peeing and pooping on the property, and blocking field approaches.
We have garbage in our ditch but I'm afraid it's from the pot selling kid who lives down at the end of our road. Hard to keep tidy ditches apparently when you've got the munchies. Just easier to keep po'd neighbors.
Fishing yesterday we had the joy of drifting with TOURISTS . The lake is 103,000 acres. We were drifting a point and a man threw his lure at our boat. Then trolling motored in front of us where our lines were essentially cutting our drift. I think our lack of computerized trolling motor hooked up to a $2000 gps was the problem. We just drift. Another guy came through just feet away where we had casted. Tourists. Yep we still have them.
So happy to hear your turkey hen decided to be nice and get off the nest for you. You can keep the Balut...I have good news that will make some of you happy.....
Judy does not have to look for a new home, she gets to stay here!!!![]()
The Turkey hen took pity on her and got off her nest yesterday morning and I happen to see she was gone. I could lift the plywood, cut a hole in the wire and take out the chicken eggs myself...Any of you interested in Balut? Otherwise, I will have to just throw the eggs away..

There is the recipe if you want to try it.
I should be done with my planting today,,,only a month behind schedule. Having a huge field and with my tractor not fixed quite yet has slowed me down. I have had to disc and level with my ATV. Hopefully next year it will be running. I would not count on it though...
I should have my sawmill running this afternoon...Unless a severe case of laziness over takes me or I get busy doing something else, like mushroom hunting.
I found a huge patch of Ramps/leeks the other day, I might go back and dig a few. I have always known they were there, I just did not know what they where. After seeing online pictures and looking at one of my foraging books, I have decidede they are ramps...and am 90% sure they are safe to eat.
I will know for sure after I volunteer to make Judy's salad tonight.![]()
I want to make a canopy to place my breeding cages under as I have to work on my PC's this summer with some test breeding. I doubt I will get to that today though. Judy is demanding I work on the brakes on her car. She never lets me have a minutes peace...
Oh, and after that I have to work on my Mother's car. She has them "rotate" the tires on her car every oil change....When I asked her why, she said " Because it's free"......
Well, her last "free tire rotation" was in Florida. When they went to rotate them here they found the guy had cross threaded the stud. She says its $140 to have the stud changed in the garage.....So guess who has to do it for less than free??
I know I will have to even dish out the 7 bucks for the new stud, in addition to wasting 3 hours doing it....
See how rough my life is???
Layers enjoy your free youth and the glory of the track meets!!! It changes soon and you will be like poor poor me with everyone making demands on your time....
Have a good weekend all..
