Surviving Minnesota!

Rhetts, Good to hear from you again, Sorry and condolences for you and your daughter.

I will make sure to push my way to the front of the line for those blessed ducks..

MnChickMom did he happen to mention how badly he is prepared to lose at the Benton Co fair? I am sure that is weighing on him and would be something he would talk about when regaining consciousness from surgery...

I had an incident last night. Well, Judy and I did. Judy wanted to put the birds to bed early, despite my telling her that never goes well. But what do I know, She is always right, just ask her.....:barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie

So we put the birds to bed early. All the turkeys but one Tom were in bed already, so that was easy. Except the tom was sitting on the ground beneath a tree with branches around him. He was black and knew we could not see him so he refused to move. I had to actually go into the brush and branches and "kick" him to get him to move. He gave me a nasty look, told me off, walked to the coop while giving me stink eye the whole time. That was easy..

The Appletinis and the one group of Doms refused to separate. They decided they were all best friends yesterday. After 5 minutes of trying to separate them I gave up and locked them all in the Dom's pen.

The Dom rooster with no feet, gave me a run for my money and was a pain to catch, as I described someone else all ready.

The toad babies refused to go in, as fast as they went in they came back out. They have 2 SS and 2 doms that live with them. Those 4 absolutely refused to go in, I had to catch each one in a net and put them in the top....I am sure glad we decided to put them to bed early...

We finally only had one bird to go, the extra PC rooster, we call "Ed Jr". We have the three. Ed, Weinerhead and Ed Jr. Ed jr, decided he was not going to go at all. We chased him round and round. He would sneak through Judy everytime. I had the net and he was smart enough to avoid me. After about 20 minutes of this version of ring around the posey, I gave up. He normally sleeps in a cage outside where he puts himself or inside if I put him to bed.

I told him, "Ed jr, you ( expletive deleted, deleted, deleted) I am done playing this (expletive deleted) game. You can stay out all night, see what (expletive deleted) I care whether you live or die."

Well, he died. Now we know I cared. He was my back up rooster. I have no back up now. I have Ed who has problems getting it on with the women and Weinerhead, who's name should give you a clue to him........

I forgot to go back out and lock his cage and something must have gotten him. I saw no feathers though so maybe :fl:fl:fl he just ran away from home for a bit to show me I do care.....

So EJB. Be very very very careful with that rooster!!!! I might need to beg, borrow or steal him back for a month next spring. Actually might try to pick a new rooster up at the Hutch show this year, with the nationals here they could be an exceptional rooster there.

Stupid bird!!!!!!!

Oh and to tell you how the rest of my day went, I needed to get a piece for the sawmill today. I went to the small engine place and got the piece I needed, with tax it came to $3.20... I had a 20 dollar bill in one pocket and $3.19 in the other. I know because I counted it out at the cash register when I went to pay.....They did not have a penny dish, I had to break my 20, So now I have $19.99 in my pocket!!! :barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie:barnie

Sure glad we put the birds to bed early....:he:he:he:he
Sorry Ralph, I hope the PC turns up. :hugs

He turned up ..Dead in the corner of the field.

I think it is a coon, but not sure. I have a picture of some scat, not sure what it is either weird looking.

It appears the rooster got up at sunrise and left his cage to be attacked right behind the breeding pens. Not a good sign. I set a live trap with the roosters body. I hate when this starts it seems to go on for a while until I can get the critter..

You can see the head and shoulders are missing, I found the head about 150 ft away at the place the attack occurred.

Here is a wing about 35 ft from the main body. Whatever it is, it tore him up.

Here is the head about 150-175 ft from the main body and right behind the breeding pens.

Below you can see the attack area and how close it is to my breeding pens.

And this is the scat:

And if that is not enough, I discovered Ed's intentions are not good. I was bragging how he protects the toads. well, tonight I caught him mounting a baby toad! He is a pedophile! I am disgusted.

Below is Ed and the victim. Notice how the Stockholm syndrome is in effect. The poor baby is identifying with her attacker. She is just a baby!!

Not the way you wanted to find him, eh. :(

My roosters grab chicks still peeping and try to have their way with them. I tell them that those tendencies will land them on the death row, but the beasties don't listen. Shameful.

Thank you. Yes, my daughter. She was 4 months and 5 days.
I am so sorry for your loss! :hugs

Aw, man! That's too bad! Every now and then I forget to lock up my birds. So far I've been lucky. This winter it was when they were in for the night that they ran into troubles. I don't close the pop door, and a mink tunneled in from under the coop and got them while they were sleeping.

Ralph's sorry to hear about your PC rooster. I hate predators. I have another predator issue... Luckily this one will be easy to take care of... A not tame cat has killed all my Cochin, OE, SLW (except one) and my Rhode Island Reds. That old bat is not going to have a good day tomorrow...

Ok everyone.. Being the generous person I am I have decided to kindly give you all a free kitten! We have around 12 so I am thinking that's enough for all of you to get one. There are 3 skittish ones but I think if EJB and Jerry get those ones they will have them tame and cuddly in no time! So if you all would just kindly come and pick them up that would be great!

I didn't get pics of all of them but there are some more really pretty black and white one and one white kitten with orange spots. But if anybody actually needs a cat let me know.

@Rhetts glad to have you pop back on. My sympathy on the loss of your Norah. I think you all knew it was coming but I doubt there's a way to prepare for losing a child. Thoughts are with you. :hugs
How is Bonnie our Hairy Coo doing?

Holm every time you post kitties I have to process in my brain why I can't have one. Gosh that first one and the calico would be my choices. Meow, meow.

Jerry the John Deere's have nice floating mower decks that don't scalp your lawn bumps. Nice and smooth.

Heading to Perham early AM for Ds golf sections. DH and I are going to be in the gallery. We can't cheer and have to be 25 feet away. I hope he does well. Top 5 teams go to state and top 12 golfers. We'll see how he does.
Night all.
