Surviving Minnesota!

Morning . Talked to the excavator and concrete guy yesterday . So frost footing are backfilled and floor due to be poured Monday . Then drainage tile and waterproofing before backfilling . Hopefully done by Saturday the 15 . I will be there and ready to start building .

Its really coming along Jerryse! Yeah!
DH seems to maybe have found a contractor up in the Aitkin area that will build the way that DH wants it done. THAT Contractor is drawing up plans to give DH a bid. Its a process isn't it? I try to stay away from the whole process as I am sure Janice does also. Our MaMa's didn't raise no dummies.

Had to get that out there this morning for ole times sake. Ralphie used to be on this thread every-single-morning waiting - waiting - waiting. Remember? Then I started racing to the computer in the morning to beat him to the thread. It got to be a 'who can post first' contest and then others started to join in. It was fun for a time.
My flock was chattering away this morning which is unusual so I was up at 5:00 to check that out. It is much, much cooler out and whenever they move on their roost, which is attached between two frame posts, the metal roof creeks. I thought that, perhaps, there was a critter onto f the roof. So I went looking for my nifty folding ladder (its a 13') that I used when I climbed up on roofs to check for storm damage (it just reached - most of the time - to get me onto a roof but was light enough that I could handle setting it up and taking it down). Its missing. There is a longer story, not worth telling and let it be known that I was not happy that MY ladder was missing - again. Remember that my DH is a General Contractor. HIS DS works as a sub for the company but feels its okay for him to take MY ladder whenever he wishes. Actually, I am proposing that they keep the ladder in their equipment inventory and I hire a company to wash the windows on the house. The windows on the second story have NEVER had a good-good cleaning and I am getting too aged to lean out the second-story and wipe windows. I am afraid of dropping a window if I dissemble it for cleaning so I won't do all of that pull apart stuff.
When DH and our neighbor did construction together, they kept swiping MY extension cords. No matter where I hid them, they'd find them. I finally asked for pink ones for Christmas. My step-dad found a couple and got them for me. I told the guys, "The pink cords are OFF LIMITS!" It worked - for a while....
Me, I just walk over and hit them in the face with a pillow. Much quicker. :lau

I hate the new format, I missed your antibiotic question.

I asked my Doc a couple weeks ago he says any form of the antibiotic will work orally the problem is dosage amounts.

He uses the inject-able as an oral solution.

I use a calf bolus broken into small pieces I pick the piece the size I like and help the chick eat it. You can get several different varieties of antibiotics.

I think the boluses would make a oral solution.

@Bantambird 's mother is a vet and she uses a small needle and injects antibiotics into hers. I think she said a 1/10 of a drop or some small amount.

I understand the governments wanting to keep antibiotics out of the food supple, however, you could overload every chicken own by us here at BYC and not affect 1/10th of 1/100/ of the food supply. Over kill by the government if you ask me.

I am pretty sure the large producers still the drugs we can't.

I plan to store up on the drugs for the next round.

Corrid is still available.

Yes, I think the government over reached there as well. Don't want to take chickens into the vet. So I used amoxicollin broke open and mixed with some baby food and syringed it in her mouth 1cc at a time

I couldn't agree more with Government getting in a little too deep. I agree that there needs to be some regulations on Antibiotic and Medicated Feed Usage, but they don't need to be overstepping like they have. (Keep my small backyard flock out of your big corporate laws!)

As a beef farmer (we raise steers) we are required to document which animal received what vaccine, medicated feed and antibiotic. We are heavily fined if we can not produce the records and the vet presciption for the any bottle/bag of medicine found on our property. I think this is a good requirement because we are mass producers of human consumed food. This law also helps control the feed lots that freely pour medicated feed in the large capacity feeders and continue to feed right up to slaughter date.

It is my opinion that our governing bodies do more harm than good. Much of the regulations which we are forced to comply with are poorly thought out and the result of someone's money padding politicians pockets.
The latest round of restrictions has been implemented not so much to protect as to enrich.
It seems that lately we get 3/4 to an inch of rain per day. It is nice because it reduces the time required to water the pants in nursery pots, but much more and the wild rice will be sprouting again. Wish I could send some to those in the Dakotas who have drought conditions.

Anyone grow blueberries ? I fail here . Thinking a few at the lake might work . I bet wetland water is acidic . So maybe native range and swamp water as needed would work . Yeah hiding from the heat and thinking .
