Surviving Minnesota!

Hello. I live in south central Minnesota. I'm looking to get some bourbon red turkey poults as close to January 1 as possible. Anybody know anyone that hatches early turkeys?

You will have a near impossible time finding poults in Minnesota in January. I keep my breeders on artificial light and am lucky to get a hatch before March....

If you are looking for a step up on the 2018 shows, I suggest you head to Texas over New Years.

I assume the run was covered. Just regular brown material? Leaves, shavings, coop cleanout, etc?
Not covered. My chickens stay in the coop all winter because I have a large one.

Yes, leaves are the biggest ingredient. It isn't super hard.

What I did was I let the coop bedding compost beside the run for a year or two and then raked it in.

Do you think it would work in a run being used over the winter? I'm hoping too cover it, but we'll see how far budget takes me this fall.

Just checking in. No outside work for me this week. I've been painting walls and acquiring beds so my kiddos have a place to sleep. We're going to have someone come out later this week to give an estimate for demolishing our silo that is in dangerous condition. We are also going to get someone looking at our barn, but they want to start with photos, instead of a visit. I'm real nervous, cuz my husband is trying to prep me for if we can't afford to save it. That's not what I want, of course.

Still alive ! Another Chiropracter visit . Got to share this in case it helps someone . I stopped taking my statin . Aches and pains are getting better because I quit . It is hard to know if it is age , work or meds . It seems meds were a large part of it . Janet quit her statin this spring . She said even her toes hurt . Hey I bet I could of found BC Sunday by following the smell of cooking blueberries .:D Got more done yesterday as I could walk around better . Hope to get more done again today . Walking without the cane . Still walking slow but improving .
Jerry we're eating them fresh and froze the rest. I thought about a blue berry pie... but it sounds like a bunch of work. I want to get over there or have you come over and see your cockerel club and pine tree but we are still nuts here. Prepping for a camping trip. Let me figure something out...
Happy you are less achy. Are you visiting chiro here in town or going over to Walker?
Do any of you do DLM in your run? Does that work with our weather?
i do DLM in my run only. My run is covered. Oak leaves, grass clippings (which actually get grazed on all winter) and a bale of straw as needed. I do a change out every two years. I think I'm over due. But quite literally it is two feet of fluff at first. The chickens scratch and their poo drops under the leaf litter. Clean, dry feet for winter.
Pine shavings in the coop. DLM does not work for me in there.
