Surviving Minnesota!

Ralphie, I believe you are using some type of modern math in your chicken counting ?

Tfred, there was a man named David Bird I believe that lived near Deer River that had extremely good Buff Chanteclers. He seems to have dropped from sight, but maybe Mike Gilbert has some idea of what is up with him ?

Ralphie, the Dominiques sound very tempting. The originals came from Duane Urch didn't they ?

Yes, my originals were from Urch. I drove down there and picked up the eggs and hatched them myself. Included in the ones I want to get rid of besides some nice birds are some with minor defects. A few hollow combs, short combs and so forth. I really cut them tight this last "culling" I kept my bet 6 from this generation and will cull 3-4 of them in a few weeks.

As Holm eluded too, they change so fast at this age. The are blooming in front of my eyes. I think the two cockerels I picked to show may be moving to the cut pen soon. A couple of youngsters are really showing them up. It will depend on their size the last week of Oct. Age is such an advantage to the guys.

She looks good but get some red putty to fill in that hole in the middle of her rose comb!...:lau:lau:lau

Just remember combs are only 4 points...Her tail will come up more.:thumbsup

The SOP says the beak should be "short, stout and well curved"...The color should be yellow.

The dip might fill in:p:oops:

So no black on the beak?

I know we talked about this but I can't remember but did you move than one Dom roo out of your growout pen?

I think that is the SOP, that does not mean you will find one that is pure yellow. I just noticed it and commented. It was one of the defects I was cutting for on Friday, BUT I do not see anything in the SOP about the points assessed for color. Only shape.

So you should be ok, remember the perfect bird does not exist, you just want to get as close to it as you can and closer than anyone else.

I have 3 inside and 2 I might bring inside. The 2 are in the grow out pen, but they are way too good to stay there long, There is even a third outside that could come in. I am really going to be able to cut them tight thanks to Urch's stock and a lot of luck in the breeding department this spring.

How will you ever get to your bird number goal with all these great birds?:lau

Hey I am still alive . Just Busy . I would have ate that turtle . On butterflies we have a peacock butterfly that is similar . Friday lunch sounds good . So I got the stair stringers cut and installed . Covered the stairwell and got tarpaper down . Just need to finish the ends . So I started framing in and installing the walkout door .So got carried away on that . So that is finished . Was only going to work on it until the dew dried .So had to come to town for stuff .
