8-9 day retreatment with the ivermectin. Done last night on all birds but the broody. She'll have her 2nd next weekend. Her egg might be a quitter. But watched egg development video and I might have been too soon on my estimates as to when it would hatch. I'll need to take a sniff or recandle later this week...

Just catching up this morning. We have two kittens that have been learning that the chickens are not to be messed with. You can hear quite a thumb when the head hen pecks them in the head for getting too close. Our roo is turning out to not be quite so tough. We did have to shoot a stray that was causing issues with the kittens and starting to eye up the chicks. Hubby wasn't sure he actually shot the cat but he hasn't been back since.

Went out this morning to let the chicks out and the roo crowed at me for the first time. Not a great crow yet, but he's working on it. Weighed him yesterday on our baby scale and he's up to 5lbs at 14 weeks old.

Couple of questions. Are Chanteclers docile? I've seen varying opinions on this. I'm thinking of getting some Bantam whites to show next year. Any other things I should know about them?

Also, what is an Appletini?

I heard my call ducklings making a fuss, so I went over to check on them. The neighbor cat was over eyeing them suspiciously... the dog chased them of at the command of "chipmunk". Funny dog.

Mine are. As with any breed, they require frequent handling but they've got brains and don't tend to be mindlessly nuts. Don't listen to MNchickmom.

Whites have slightly different temperaments from Partridge, in general. I have heard them described as 'businesslike' rather than 'puppyish'.

You should know they are the best breed on the planet and everyone needs a dozen... That is all.

Silver Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben. Ralphie can't spell so he calls them Appletinis.

I held KnotHead formerly known as Psycho by @MNChickMom for 15 minutes today ... I held knucklehead for 10 minutes or so, neither bit me real hard and managed to escape.....this time. So they are mellow I guess.
