Surviving Minnesota!

Ralphie, I don't profess to be an expert on this, but I think to produce pullets/hens with the best penciling it is helpful to use a male which displays some small amount of red leakage in the breast feathers which are black ?
I suspect that Mike G. has two lines of birds. A cock line and a separate hen line. The cocks in the hen line would not show well as a result of some red leakage ?
If you wish to learn more, you may find it in information for other penciled breeds ?

He says he doesn't keep two lines, but maybe he's changed methods since then.

I'm starting two lines of Silkies... I have a male that is too light with hens that are two dark and a male that is too dark with a gen that is a little light colored... We will see if I can fix it or not... I am looking forward to working with these birds...

EJB did you run two lines of PCs?

Trust me, I could get into the US again if I wanted to, even without your arranged marriages idea.

I don't know if that wall is an issue at this time. Oh . . . . it will come up again . . . . right now the concentration is on football players and what they choose to do during the National Anthem. Anything to get the media off the real issues.

Holms, I did not. If I was going to become serious about showing I would seriously consider it, but only after a determination that I could not get the penciling I desired with one line.

The article Banty pointed out in the CFI newsletters covered exactly that. It actually gave some good hints. I happen to have a rooster with some red leakage in front of his breast and hackles. He will no longer be going to visit the Nice Asian Lady in St. Paul.

Ralphie, it may be worthwhile to investigate the information at "The Classroom @ The Coop". There is a wealth of information there and many contributors with much personal experience and genetic knowledge.

Jerry mentioned the coop once and I have searched for it with no luck, I will try again.

The article Banty pointed out talks to a couple of breeders, one that has two lines and another that does not. The key the second guy said is letting them get old enough and having enough chicks to pick the good ones...(paraphrased) and as I understood it.
