Well, mom was busy doing all the NPIP paperwork last night, let's hope we didn't get anything wrong! We tested all the birds. There were 60 chickens and 20 turkeys.
So, is it true turkeys require a different test, or not? I saw the mycoplasma test was required for the show entry for turkeys only in Hutchinson but is mycoplasma testing a part of the turkey side of NPIP then?
We shall find out, I guess, but I think Mom has had her fill of bird stabbing for now.
Either way you are good to go. Just submit the test results on the show birds with your entry form And apply for your import permit to MN right way.
In Minnesota we need to test the turkeys for MS/MG. I had to fight with the state this spring over turkeys. They did not want turkeys and chickens housed or free ranging together. The state said the turkeys could give the chickens MS/MG.
They are correct about that, however, MG/MS are not tested for in chickens. I argued my turkeys were an indirect test on my chickens. If the turkeys do not have MS/MG the chickens won't either, if the turkeys are the carriers to the chickens. I did get rid off my guineas though, but that was to stop the bio-security risk those misbehaved little children of unmarried a royal parents posed...
I filled out my entry yesterday and mailed it this morning.
I am making some decisions on who is going to Hutch today. The losers will be unhappy for the most part. The boys are headed to the freezer. I might keep a runner up alive just in cases on the boys. The girls will be moving to the grow out pen to be moved back into the flock.
I will be making indoor breeding pens this year. I can't believe it never thought of this before. Each pen will be 10x12ft. Plenty of room for 5-6 birds over winter. I hope they get use to these pens for next summer so I can free range them from them.
I am going to use the rainy day to do some running. I need to get wood chips from Runnings. They have the real large chips no one else has. Then to Fleetfarm for the protein and cage wire.
