Surviving Minnesota!

Lawn is white and roads slippery. I’m buying two front tires today. I *lo-ove* buying overpriced rubber. A necessity though.

Next month I’ll get the rear tires.

Had excavator friend out to view our lay of the land and help us solve our flooded air duct tubes every other spring in the basement. He looked at our place and new ugly blue house neighbor’s place. That place with its construction had filled in the natural flow of the wetlands and potholes that eventually drain to the lake. We have one low spot that will have standing water that will creep in our lawn closer to the house now. We’re going to trench and recreate the little channel on our property that was filled in on theirs. Ugh.

Jerry I have tried persimmons. They are delicious. It would be dreamy to grow a variety here!
Many persimmon are rated to zone 4 . I had hoped to get some seed from a northern population . No luck yet . I will probably order from Mo. conservation . Seedlings are cheap . Probably do 25 as they are about the same total price as 10 . Plant some here and some there . Let nature select the hardiest .

Good Morning All!

The latest hunting report from central MN.....I will not be hunting in the place where my husband and father-in-law would like me to hunt, because it is home to a black bear! Yes I said Black Bear! My father in law came face to face with it while he was combining corn yesterday, thankfully he was in the combine. Mr. Bear had a nice little cozy home complete with 7 course meal of corn within 100 yards of my deer stand.

Either the rut is on already or they don't like the weather. My bet is the weather as it started snowing around 6 this morning. Last night, I nearly hit 3 on the way home from work and this morning I locked up my brakes for a nice doe.

The new buff orps are doing well. I spoke to an older more experienced gentleman named John at the Hutch show. He told us to sprinkle everyone with a little baby powder to prevent the new pecking matches. Well my husband took that as sprinkle everyone with Poultry dust so everything is just ducky in the quarantined buff pen.

Stay warm and stay safe! Central MN is a skating rink.

You could come hunt here. I have a sow and cubs on my property, and she's a mean one too... :thumbsup

MNchickmom the rut is on here. Saw two smaller Bucks beating each other up yesterday and saw another buck with his nose to the ground chasing does. AND their necks are getting THICK!

I hate bears! We have beat up where we hunt and a lot of our stands are used as scratching posts for them!

Holms, you had better hope they are all in hibernation and don't decide to use you as a scratching post !
