Surviving Minnesota!

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .
Got up and refilled water in the coops. Checked that big coop (which isn't that big) and I am sure that critter got in before the coop door was closed the night before at about 10:30 because I forgot to do it earlier. I am glad everything is okay in there this a.m. The coop is complete hardware cloth and that is wrapped with plastic and there is a cement block foundation that the frame sits on top of. Inspected that yesterday and it has not been tampered with. NEXT time I will get it into a kennel, tie a rope around the kennel so I can retrieve it, and drop it in the river for an hour. I don't even know how to load a rifle let alone shoot one.
So the suns out today! Yea!

Morning everyone. Cold one today eith temps in the single digits. My dad is taking the two open cows to the sales barn today. After school I am going to finish winterizing the coop. I still need to put hay in the thatches behind the roosts and put some straw on the floor.
I also need to get the brooder ready as I want to start setting eggs from my birds from Jamie this week.

Ralphie, do you have a case of this at your house ? Perhaps you could invite the Segler's to Thanksgiving dinner and have this as part of the menu ?

They are invited here anytime..... I Know Jerry would gobble the possum down. I am worried what Mrs Jerry would think of me. Right now she thinks of me as a well refined, educated sophisticated upper crust person. I would hate to ruin that for her.

offer still open to take him...

Yikes, glad the girls are ok. He will be back. I'd add hardware clotcloth to that pen.

I would let you have Ed, just because he is on the bottom of the pecking order here. He allows me to handle him, but he is not a real cuddler if that is what you are looking for. He has never been anything but a gentleman with the girls. When I have chicks he will sit with the chicks and "protect" them. When he is free ranging he is watching the skies constantly. He just refuses to fight other roosters. He was my first "good" rooster. So I have a soft spot for him.

I have no doubt he would give his life for his girls and the babies. I would miss him. I am now going to sound like a city chicken owner, I would not want him eaten by humans or used as dog feed.

I have a few Chanticler roosters now, all descendants of his. If they should all die (slim chance) I would like to borrow him for new chicks.... I know lots of strings attached. He is a great rooster, his body is a tad too V shaped but he has done me well.

He does crow, but not often. I have no idea what he would do at your place. Also you should know he is old. I have no idea how old. I am thinking 4, but EJB would know for sure.

Lvie. I only shoot small gaged fire arms. .22 is my favorite and am most knowledgeable about it but since ugly blue cabin has been built DS has had to put a 410 (mini shot gun) at the door at DH’s request. He says 22 bullets can go for a mile if there’s a miss. But the first time I shot one I hit the can. If you come up we’ll have a small session on loading and shooting. They’re kind of fun.
I have always nostalgically though of possum in the south lands... ( like not Minnesota) and to see them is surreal for me in this state. Was it kind of cute ivie? Lol.
I wonder if possum stew is good or something you need to watch Beaver Fever for...?
Yah I guess I would make sure pens are close ivie. Shucks. Vermin. Yikes!

Ed I would have released the owl too. But I also see the error now that you have two ensconced at your pigeon ranch.
