Surviving Minnesota!

Ohhhhh Fuuuuuuddddge....!

Two dog, 9 chicken, bubble wrap, flat panel heater night tonight. We’re predicted -27 for our low.
I think I’ll get out that premier lamp. I do that for the -30 sh-tuff.

I am sorry for the family that lost a loved one on Christmas: Judy, the caregiver in my prayers most of all. Beautiful lady you have there Ralphie. Merry Christmas.

We are foxless yet. And Sean went to the great green pastures above yesterday. No more suffering. Although he survived the attack I’m thinking nerve, muscular and bony damage to his spine would have kept him a cripple. We gave him a shot. Cleaned his lavender chux every time he pooped. So the work keeping a convalescing (maybe) chicken is not so great gig. Especially with highly questionable repair happening. I took him to the coop and junior wanted to take advantage and thump him. Chickens are mean bass-turds and he didn’t stand a chance in the coop and run as #2 roo.

Problem solved.

I just did a quick study of the vitamins and minerals in the cattle feed I use on the chickens. The only one I see missing is Lysine. However, I see one of the main ingredients is soybean, which I assume they use to get the protein to 32%..

The internet says soy is a good source of lysine....I would think they would list it? Who knows, maybe cows hate lysine....

I feed the supplemental vitamins on a less than regular schedule so I am covered...I hope...

Sorry on Sean....I hope the fox has severe rigor mortis by now.

I was a nutrionist for nearly 10 years. Cattle use lysine. A concentrate as you described certainly has lysine. Fleet has an ok product, but being inexpensive, they won't guarantee the lysine level as it is an expensive supplement.

My two cents- I sold Purina products for 8 years as a nutritionist and was a feed plant manager for Cargill Nutrena/Naturewise/Sprout) for 4.

I have a small flock, so it's more affordable, but having been involved in some of Purina's research over the years, I absolutely believe in their products, quality, safety, and research.

I do understand those of you with more mouths to feed looking for less expensive options. I believe that with them you get what you pay for.
