Surviving Minnesota!

Ralphie did I ever tell you I had to put my Dom rooster out with the layer flock? He is a sex addict! His quad was not enough for him! He just breeds CONSTANTLY! The poor girls were staying on the roosts all day with him in there...

Hello. I am receiving 20 turkey poults in early April. 10 Bourbon Red and 10 Double Breasted Bronze. My plan was to free range them as I do my chickens. A guy at work told me it might be illegal to free range them as the DNR doesn’t want them interbreeding with the wild turkeys. I know this isn’t a problem for the DBBs but I suppose it is possible for the BRs. Do any of y’all know if any of this is true? Do any of y’all free range any heritage turkeys??

While the DNR may not want them to inbreed, I can guarantee you they are. My Toms are too lazy to go more than 100 yards from the house. If you ask the WWD, she will tell you they sit on her deck all day long.

Every spring I have a few wild hens that come into my yard and hang with my toms for a couple weeks. I cannot catch them or touch them but I can get 10 feet from them. They are here for one reason.....To lead my poor innocent toms astray. I have seen them using their female ways to trap my poor toms into the breeding ritual.

They do this several times over the few weeks, then they sneak away having robbed my toms of their innocence. I have asked the DNR to control their birds, they refuse.

The weird colored turkeys people shoot in the Sherburne Wildlife refuge is not my fault. I have done all I can do.

Ralphie, your last sentence makes me believe that you did learn some tricks during your run for office. that is the type of statement which might come from a seasoned politician.
Perhaps another go at it would be in order ?
The reality is I believe you will be much happier in the private realm. It is difficult for a sane human to adjust to the shenanigans in the political world.
Enjoy the turkeys you have and not the ones in St Paul.

Pretty happy with how these two Cockerels dresses out.. Don’t go knocking the processing job lol. We needed to get them done quick so we didn’t take our time lol.. I’m really happy with how the Buckeye dressed out... The mutt was small...

Ralphie how disappointing that this is the poor state of affairs our politics are in. That an agenda of inbred politics is being followed vs. the will of the people. Gutless turds. Afraid of change. Swamp dwelling not for the weak of heart.
Like everyone else I think I’m sad for you , but sort of relieved you do not have the frustration of idiots every day. Sorry, not sorry.

I have 3 ameraucanas laying. One New Hampshire laying. Blrw on break, welsummer on break and 2 ameraucanas not laying yet. The blrw and wellie laid in January for me but then stopped a bit with the cold I suppose. I think once free ranging those laying will change. I’m considering a tie up for that labrador while we are at work down at the coop. Set up a resting place or a dog house. This fox situation has me nervous for spring free ranging. As I’ve left the coop door open for the hens to lay then to go back out at will to catch up with the flock. I’m afraid of the hens on the nest being snatched and oddly not too worried with them at large on the property with lots of cover around the house.
My only concern about Sadie is that she’ll bark and yell her fool head off all day. As she is used to the sofa for her day naps. I think she’ll settle in though. Idk. But I need her territorial pest deterrrant skills. She’s getting the job ...
