Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning.
Last year the lake was open April 2 - totally. Most years it's open by the 15th, give or take a day. This year it looks like it hasn't even started to thaw :barnie

Here we are another sunny winter day in the frozen tundra.

Carhart still required over the flannel pj’s to open the pop door. Frozen founts when I get home from work. (I’ve kept it out in the run all winter without the tin heater) they get what they get for water in the morning. Doing great with that too. I’d break up ice a bit in the evening too if I was down there.

Pearl is still broody. Yesterday I cooled her breast with a bit off snow. She quit bicking. I kind of felt like I was a meanie doing it. Lol. But she came out for treats this am bicking away. Still broody.

Pretty striped bird of some sort string bean. Jerry is a guru with the genetics. I can't keep up...

Don’t be a party pooper, it’s magical. It’s always magical when we aren’t in the single digits or negative. Also it’s magical turning the lights on (I am using MHP method) and watching the chicks doing their morning charge out for food and water for the first time. I haven’t killed them yet!

I’m still on the fence with that hurt Brahma, it spent the evening yesterday snuggled with me. I looked as bracing for splay leg and I actually don’t think it is that. I stretched the leg out backwards in an attempt to fix a slipped tendon and it didn’t pitch a fit but still won’t stop holding the leg up against itself. Still is eating and drinking furiously so I guess time will tell.
You can see the redness/swelling well in this photo and the foot turn in the next.

I’m not sure what to do... I don’t usually try and “fix” chicks with issues... I get too attached to the special babies... Best of luck with the little guy...
