Surviving Minnesota!

Just got in from putting the broody lavender Ameraucana in the broody coop with 6 eggs. She’s been broody for a while. I’m a little worried about her but I think she’ll set. Is she ever ticked about changing nests though. Uff da. Kitty was the same last year.

Pearl will settle in but I will need to check for dumped water, food, etc.

Bring your K-drill Ralphie.

Late ice fishing takes on a whole new meaning this year. My wager is that ice outs will be later than 2013.

I am trolling in my boat today!!! Or I ain't gonna go. I want to back into my local landing unload and troll.......

Did I mention my DNA came back with a small amount of Finnish in me.....can you tell?

Morning! Yesterday we were able to get close enough to the Baldie calf, and it is a heifer!
We haven’t had any decent heifers yet... They have all been put of the angus bull and we don’t want any angus... We don have one heifer who is promising but we will see... I think we only have four heifers and two are out of the Angus... They are just too fine built..

This is an Angus sired heifer calf..

This is a SimAngus bull. You can’t beat these calves. That cow is 1700 pounds and the calf is 2 weeks old so you can see the growth these calves have.

A group of calves... Almost all of our calves were over 100lbs at birth this year. They are expected to gain AT LEAST 3lbs a day until they are weaned. Small bull calves usually wean off at 650lbs come fall with one or two pushing 800lbs... the smallest two will be kept back for bucket come fall..

I really like the cow, a good framed baldie, probably weighs around 1200 which is around where a cow should be for efficiency. The calf looks really nice so far, I haven't been out as much as I would like to lately. She looks like she is out of one of Brads bulls, and I like those 2 more then our other one.
