Surviving Minnesota!

Ralphie, Good luck with your inspection today.

Congrats to all the celebrations.

Rain is not allowed in Mayhew Lake Township or Graham Township for at least another week.

We had an incredibly busy last week and weekend. First, my mother - in -law had open heart surgery on Thursday, which left some of the farm chores to us, and my sister-in-law. My daughter had her play performance this weekend as well. Son had his final youth football game of the season at St. Cloud State University.

We culled 25 (ish) old hens and 2 PITA roosters. We had Amazon ship us a Yardbird plucker....once we get the hang of it, I think this will be a wise investment. We had troubles with the wings not wanting to pluck. (So I said cut them off....there is no meat on the wings anyway.) A wise person told me to invest in a pipe cutter to help with some parts of the processing of the birds. I will be investing in a 2nd pipe cutter as it seems with 4 of us butchering someone always needed "the cutters." I sold 22 young birds from this years hatch. I no longer have any Yokahomma's....part of me is sad to see them go the other part says....remember focus on only a few breeds....

Did some much needed yard clean up last night......who in the heck dropped all their leaves in our yard over the winter. I swear we picked them up last fall. Now waiting for some black dirt to fill in the monsterous ruts and reseed the back yard.

I just saw the forecast for today...I am pretty sure I will have the 3 o'clock flu.

I hope everyone has a great day and learns from my mistake...."Remember the Sunblock"

I read the craziest thing... A hatchery has a thing that said their rare (expensive hatchery quality) birds aren’t as easy to sex so they are only correct 75% of the time... I think they just need to get rid of the excess Cockerels...

Yep, and McMurrays only sells the auto sexing Cream Legbars as straight run.

I like this idea! Especially now that the price of legbars is way down there, there is no reason I should sell sexed birds for half price( by destroying the other half)

Maybe I can do the legbars at 5 bucks a piece straight run and 20 sexed.

I hatched a male Legbar about 10 days ago. I moved them last night to their new brooder (after 10 days the Marek's vaccine should be good).....

Anyways..the stupid cockerel died! laid right under the heat lamp and died...Just to ruin my day!

Any one wanna donate to my chicken illness?? Seems I want to keep a rainbow egg flock and little old ladies love me for the eggs ( 5yr old and 9 yr old go with the church group and we give them eggs ) so um chickens wanted.. also... um some one come till my garden... pretty please.. also ralphie I met some speckled sussex st a local farm I was networking for the ministry. She told me her as wasnt very social. They are interesting looking though.
