Surviving Minnesota!

I have been spending my time talking to referral ladies who keep screwing up my Dads referrals for back injections of bone cement for two lumbar compression fractures. Although it’s getting better, the va still has its time consuming approval system of non va care. Consult consult consult. No approval of procedure. They just pass em around like a hot potato until the ‘b’ daughter gets involved. Now we have our procedure next week on Wednesday. In Alexandria 3 hours away. Not bemidji. We’ll take it! I have experience working referrals as a clinic nurse and I got confused and frustrated with these people. I cannot begin to imagine the delays and frustration with the elderly vets. Had to take it over for Mom and Dad.

I added a bar rock pullet to my flock last Sunday. I think the Dominique cockerel likes her.

Magic flowers haven’t really progressed Jerry . I need to amend my soil I think. All the flower beds.
Our local mushroom guys found a boatload of chanterelles just last week. They did not share anything. They just showed hubby the back of their trucks. Apricot colored fungal bliss. My spot has none. I’ve checked like 3 times. But they’re obviously in some places.

I need to clean my coop and get the youngins in there. Car garage getting spotty and stinky.
I hate the run around the vets and elderly get all the time. Personally, I think it's shameful how both groups are treated. My folks worked hard for their money and the money that was put aside for them for Social Security and Medicare. Now that they need it, it's like the keepers of the money don't want to let it go. I think those who make the laws should have to follow them and be on the same programs they pass. That would improve things greatly, I think. Getting off my soapbox now...

Good evening chickeners! I'm thankful for a break from the heat and so are the birds.

My temporary coop for the pullets and cockerel are being outgrown and it's time to combine them into the main coop. They've been separated by chicken wire for 5 weeks and have free ranges together from time to time. I haven't decided yet if I keep the rooster or cockerel. Eventually there can only be one. For now the cockerel looks nice and dark, though I fear he's got some red coming.

My question is simple. How do I put the cockerel with the rooster? Will they spar, or am I ok until puberty hits? I have not heard any young crowing yet. Wattles and comb are turning color.

(I wish I had made my coop and run bigger. I'm learning that this chicken math thing is a real affliction.)
No kidding, I have 12 outside in an A-frame (5-6 week olds), 10 inside in a box brooder (1 week old) and 35 eggs in 2 incubators ( I sneaked in 12 this morning I just drove to Cologne and bought without telling my husband). I just started 6 weeks ago!!

Fantastic result for the Holm family ! That $500 should help with the feed bill just a little.

Been puttzing around and found some things in the weeds that my mother tried to scream at me to pull... I guess it detracts from my house... hmmm. But being garden ministry I couldnt bring my self to kill the "weeds" glad I didnt. Counted five of those suckers in different growth stages. I think I'll keep my weeds that make my house look horrible from the road.
