Sometimes rarer breeds like say a jersey giant might not be bad from a hatchery. I think hatcheries now and then get birds from breeders to replenish breeding stock. Some more popular breeds will be smaller watered down version as they are probably selecting hens for laying tons of eggs and roosters for breeding aggression from their own versus selecting for show quality . But I have seen decent rare breeds from hatchery. Just saying.... and I suppose the lines aren’t as over done or have had as many selections of different reasons-- if you know what I mean. Maybe I’m talking out of my tookus. But that’s what I envision. Thanks so much for the reply! I'll have to look into getting better stock. I've got 15 JG's coming from MurrayMcMurry the second week of October, and wouldn't mind adding some quality into those. It isn't a money thing for me (honestly I don't care if I sell any, as the ones I don't want I'll either keep for eggs or meat), more of for the challenge of it. If that goes well then I'd looking into other breeds.
Thanks again!
Very frequently hatcheries outsource their offerings. One example is that very few hatcheries have their own guineas. Most of them source their guineas from Ralph Winter's Guinea Farm which is the largest guinea producer in the U.S. Another example was when I ordered Royal Palm turkey poults from McMurrays, they came from New Mexico instead of Iowa where McMurrays is located.Sometimes rarer breeds like say a jersey giant might not be bad from a hatchery.
