Surviving Minnesota!

We can usually handle 2 packages pretty well. Before they got put away I went back into the kitchen to find the plate with 4 chunks left on it and a ballooned out labrador prancing at the sliding glass door wanting out no doubt for a bathroom break in the lawn. Gol that sneaky quiet dog. She's got a knack for kitchen counter cleaning escapades.

Neighbors are up for deer hunting camp. They stay a week. We have the tie ups ready for Sadie MaeMae...since she is the territory enforcer for deer for the whole neighborhood and we don't want a bullet in her. :D Not yet any way.
Mouse traps on your counter may cure that. It only took once for my dog. It didn't stick to him, but scared the bejeebers out of him when it snapped!

Well the days of early posts have become a thing of the past ?
Ralphie's lack of contribution since entering the political arena has resulted in less posts by others, but then again he usually wrote something that stirred a need to respond from others. I certainly wish Ralphie no ill will, but politics is a dirty ugly business as it now exists. I don't know that Ralphie is going to be effective in improving that or functioning in it without considerable regret ? Good luck to him in any case. Damn the torpedoes Ralphie full speed ahead !!
Thus far the predicted rain and snow have not arrived. Knock on wood.
I have a couple hens that look poorly, as they are deep into the molt. If the temperatures remain reasonable for a few more days they will be fine.
At my advanced age and degenerated physical condition I no longer go deer hunting. I never really liked the taste of venison much anyway, but getting out in the deep woods where no one else would go to enjoy the peace and quiet and commune with nature was the real goal.
Good luck to those hunting in any case.
If Ralphie were on here I could inquire if his Togo cabin residents are required to purchase a deer hunting license, or if they are considered a part of the natural order of things and can kill what they wished ?

Going back home to Fairfield today, the Ukrainian Bishop is coming to visit. Last time one came out it was for the 100 anniversary of the church in 2006, so it has been a while.
I have been sick all weekend, at the game on Friday I was wheezing, I was wheezing all night Friday after the game and all yesterday morning.
Rifle season opens on Friday here, I have been to busy and haven't gotten out much, I do know there are a couple 4×4 muleys, and I always hope to see a big whitetail as I know those genetics are out here but I have not yet.

Good Morning!
As a resident of Ralphie’s district, I will say he is the only candidate that has ran a clean campaign. This is a very Red district, Ralphie has been given a ton of ammunition (dirt that people have dug up on his opponents) but he has not stooped to those levels.

As for deer hunting, I still hunt as we have a 14 year old daughter and a son that will turn 12 this week, so we want to give them opportunities to determine whether this is a sport that want to partake in. We live very near the rifle/shotgun line in MN so depending upon our hunting location we must be mindful of our choice of guns. I grew up in shotgun zone and favor a 20 gauge Remington 870 express (youth model), well my daughter fell in love with it and she spent a lot of time and effort dialing it in to perfection over the past 3 years so I think it is a lost cause. My husband has a 12 gauge that has brought him much luck and a few meals for the family so due to their comfort levels with shotguns they were partnered and sent to shotgun zone.

My son (whom I love dearly but why does he have to be determined, stubborn, moody and a perfectionist) was given a 270 rifle to sight in and become one with, well after a few life savings investments in Winchester he was comfortable. So because I lost my gun and son needs to hunt as an apprentice, I felt compelled to offer to sit with him. We saw a nice spike buck yesterday morning, but it was “only opening morning and his father could be in the neighborhood.” So we sit again last night, we pass on first big doe because it’s a doe, then 2nd doe comes in with 2 fawns and his scope breaks (has a floater). Now, he is pissed, grandpa looks at it and says this is problem for your dad. Husband offers a different rifle that son has shot numerous times and offers to sit with him, word is he has passed on a couple of nice deer this morning. I wish I could gently remind him that not every year you see deer and that he will be remorseful once the season is over. (Our season has been shortened as husband is taking the kids to Ohio national poultry show next weekend. )

Happy hunting y’all!

Morning . Saw a buck chasing a doe this morning . Archery season here since Oct . 1. . I no longer do firearm season . Mostly a weather issue for me . Better weather and longer season . I pass on nothing . Marginal opportunity on my property . So I tag what I can .

I also shoot a Remington 870 youth model 20 ga. My boys call it my “little girlie gun”. They can call it what they want. It does the job.

DD got her first deer yesterday evening . A fork. Ds got a 6 point. Grandpa and dH happy and proud as punch. We are rifles up here.

I love that welsummer too Shaw. Love the singer too. The chicken’s egg is magnificent dark brown too.

I think my birds must have started molt early. I think the bobcat attack ‘helped’ with that. But I am relieved they are all feathered up and ready to go now. Those tail feathers lined up in neat pretty order. Every wing feather and back feather in place.

I like my mixed flock too Layers. I look at them out there and I think they are an attractive crew.

Congrats on the venison

Morning.. Good luck to all you hunters who haven’t filled your tag and congrats to those that have.

I have passed on a lot of deer this year. Shot a dry 1 1/2 yr old doe. Perfect for the freezer. Waiting for a buck now... I have seen two big guys they’ve just been too far...

Oh I forgot to say my brother had a monster Timberwolf come out about 20 yards from his stand and just stand there...
