Surviving Minnesota!

Why the laughter?

Well this weather officially sucks!

If I were offered a one way ticket to Texas. I’m gone no looking back.

We are caring for my in laws farm for a few days, This morning we were greeted by the Grand Canyon of water cutting through the farm yard and through the barn. (At least it exited to the pit) The source of water.....the calf barn, yup 2nd flooded barn. A cat jumped on the handle of the water pipe and caused it to turn on. 8-10 inches of water through out the calf barn, and chicken pen, since water runs down hill it ran into the dairy barn (no longer in use but used for storage). What a mess! Got it all cleaned up, new bedding for his prized 3 or 4 year old hens.

Get home a little after noon to enjoy a quick lunch, the neighbor calls. Are you guys home? We have both vehicles with our 9 kids stuck in our 3/4 mile long driveway. No problem I’ll send husband and 2 kids, they were gone maybe 10 minutes when I got a text from the neighbor woman, your kids are animals with shovels, they got me out to the road, so now I’m going shopping. :barnie:he

Husband and kids continue to help free their other other vehicle.

Went to do evening chores at the farm only to find that the steers are eating more than average and need another batch of feed before tomorrow. Tractor is cold blooded and won’t start because it is boycotting MN winter too. Plug it in and cross our fingers that it will start in a few hours.

On a more positive note...we had a great visit with Holms And poultry enthusiasts. I may have wrangled him into a little 4h teaching adventure near bagley MN. The kids of Clearwater county are the most amazing kids ever, we pulled in a few minutes late and they all poured out of the building to help carry in stuff. We filled them with all sorts of wisdom and excitement, sent home lots of poultry catalogs. It is my mission to put a species of poultry in kids home!
