So my Kitty here earlier this spring had a huge bloated abdomen. Was going to put her down. Got busy. And she came out of it! Whatever it was she pulled through. A few weeks later I palpated her abdomen. Normalish soft, etc. no masses. She had a great summer chooking around.
So I've got Mom's stuff going on here for the last 20 days and I see her slow down. I think oh boy she's laying internally or something again, her bottom looks dropsy walking around. etc. etc. bit of poopy but these last few weeks. but chooking around pretty good until yesterday. I look at her this morning and she has fly strike!

So nasty. The smell is amazing.

Ive never had it with my birds. She's not been usually one for a fluffy poopy butt maintenance type of bird. I hosed her little behind off with cold water. I think it must have felt wonderful. Put Poultry dust on the infestation. Then got some warm epsom water after a half hour or so. Her tissues are gray and she's got quite a wound. I've been looking it up and a chicken can make it. After her bath. I got some Veterycin spray on it and then got some cat ear mite lotion that looks soothing and and it should kill more maggots. (kind of an all around pesticide...with aloe...LOL) She is hiding under a folded up chair on my deck. Not usually a good sign when they find a hidey hole. But it's also raining. will wash her up again tonight. I also found some Keflex we bought in Mexico. I got a niblet in her beak. Give her a chance. But I'm thinking it may not be a good outcome here. Shoot....

Sorry BC. I lost my best rooster to fly strike recently... it was just too late when I found him.

Gosh I thought it was more of a Southies problem. 60 below kills those kind of flies right?! LOL. So sorry Banty on your loss too... Yeah. And I kind of wondering why she got it in the first place. She's got that spring whatever underlying thing going on I'm sure. Usually makes em weaker or prone to other problems.
I'll give her tonight and if she's looking better fine. If not then I need to just do it. Poor thing.
