Surviving Minnesota!

Holm's I'm sad to hear about Mr. T. How old was he? Gosh he was a beautiful Tom.

Congrats Destiny and Magpie on your good showings too. Those silkies are beautiful and are fun to look at. I see why they show so well.

I have some clear tarps coming from California to wrap my run in for the winter. I hope they get here soon. it seems like whenever I get anything sourced from the said western state it takes the surfer dudes working in the warehouse about 4 days to break away from their smoke break to send off my stuff. One email to ask when it was going to ship seemed to light a fire under their rear ends and VOILA it was at the UPS shipping pick up and I had a tracking number. I didn't do the green house panels or clear currogate. They are just enough money to not dive into that project. One day... maybe.

The water fount was frozen up here too. Time to bring it in each night or do the trading. Added seasonal steps to my routine. Winter is more work for sure. The fawns creep further and further onto my deck. Click click click go their hooves. Time to move the bowls again.

Finished up an add on to the coop and run. Added an extra 25x14 to the run (9x16), just in time for the ground to freeze. I'll add some chicken wire over the top in the spring, and I'll add in a small duck pond too.

My pops is up from Fla, and he was a great help getting it assembled. All said and done, I think it took roughly four hours yesterday and four hours today to get it done. A couple of pics:

Adding a short (2') rock wall along the bottom in the spring to keep the critters from digging under it. I only let the birds out in the day, they are back in the coop at night, with the door shut.

We've been having frozen waterers for about a month here, but it's starting to freeze 5 gallons solid overnight now so I instructed my sister to turn the base heater on last night. This was the forecast this morning when I left for therapy

Here are some better pictures of my sisters new birds, I'm getting kind of partial to them. The cockerel was chasing both pullets this evening so hopefully we get some eggs soon
