Surviving Minnesota!

I think we are up to ten deer. I shot two does and a fawn last night... There’s a few around.
Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike you?

I have not seen a deer.. a kid hunting with me gut shot one.. I spent half the night trailing it...

I doubt it was truly gut shot, based on the blood trail I think he shot its toe nail off.

And I still dislike you this week!

DS with a 6 point. FIL got a 10 point. After it teased and eluded the rookies all opening morning in brush and behind trees. He shot it that evening out of DS's stand. Nice deer for around this area (the strain is pretty small here for racks). DD and DH in heated condo of a deer stand got nothing. But they did see deer. Sunday morning DH opened a plexiglass window and scared off an 8 pt with a squeek of the plexi on wood. LOL. He felt so bad but DS said it best, "it's freezing cold out there, but you hear everything and see everything without walls. So at any rate we have some meat.

Even though it's still brown out there and just small skiffs at night I did leave the chickens in the run today. It's like 4 degrees with a below zero wind chill. Left them on that nice lofty leaf and straw litter in the run. I don't want frozen chicken feet. Yesterday I was going to leave them in as well. But the Black MMM Cosie kept flying up at the people door as I was looking in the run that I decided to just let them out. It took her about 30 seconds to run up the hill and dive into that antique wood pop bottle box on the front porch that I have for them, and lay her dark brown egg. She'll have to learn that the little boxes in the coop are designed for that too. Hopefully.... I do love a charming (predictable) pullet though. Can't help but smile. She just likes her box. Maybe if I put it in the run that would be enough for her too...?
