Surviving Minnesota!

I lost the mailbox to the snowplow...the garden fence to the heavy snow. The wind and snow combined to take my sap boiling tent down. My orchard fence is toast.

and I am still missing a couple turkey hens.

I am really hoping my order for palm trees is not a tad premature for the impending global warming.

Did you look for the turkeys in the boats you keep in the rafters?

There is a remote possibility my missing turkey hens could be sitting on hidden nests.
But I sure can’t be spending my day searching them.

I got some sap today, and am going to leave the taps in a couple more days as I see some cold nights ahead.

I have been checking the buds to see if they are opening a couple times a day. So far so good.

I received a text from the bee company saying my bees would be here the first week of April yesterday.

Today I was sent a notice they would be here Wednesday. April 1st. So I had to pick up and set up my bee hive.

I am ready to go for Wednesday bee pick up, except for one small detail.

My beekeeper suit does not arrive until Friday.
I am thinking of having @holm25 come down and transfer the bees from the package to the hive.

Make sure you have a slight tilt down from the rear of the hive to the front of the hive. This is to ensure that any water that gets in the hive will drain out.

The one time that honey bees are extremely calm, is when they are in a swarm. A package of bees behaves the same as a swarm of bees does.

Nice day today!

And I found that crazy Edith’s stash of 10 eggs.

It literally is in between the back of the broody coop and run fencing. Maybe 8-10 inch space. Up on metal buckets and straw from a bale they destroyed. That fell off the back of the littlebroody coop. I have a video but it takes so long to upload to YouTube then here.
She has been out steadily so I think they have been chilling back there only. No incubation.
What a poop.

I am not refined enough to like eggplant.

It sucks.
One time in my 20’s I tried to cook it fancy and I can tell you that it will never be purchased by me or grown again. Blech.

Erli Bird if it weren’t for this stay at home business I’d be knocking on your door asking to see those mink colored baby chicks. They are gorgeous!
