Surviving Minnesota!

My cherry tree is a rotting tree, I hope petrifies soon, as a memorial to my one cherry I harvested off it.

It was the worlds most expensive cherry, and I had the privilege of eating it!
Try the bush cherries from Canada . Sour or pie cherry .

Yes Frost Saturday morning .

I found Reliance peach no hardier than Elberta . Plus it is mostly clingstone no matter what they say .

Cowbirds are native . The parasitic trait on nests evolved due to them following buffalo herds for the bugs and stuff . So their food source was always on the move .

House finch is a west coast native . Introduced as a cage bird in places like New York city in 20s or 30s as I recall . They were going to bust the pet shops and people for having them . So they turned them loose . Took awhile but they spread .

The collard dove has been in the pet trade a long time . Will not cross with our native dove . As a kid I tried .

Did you have to turn your house finch loose?

If I got the chance (like miraculously caught a cowbird in my hands) I would kill it.
People kill native critters all the time, like red squirrels, skunks, coons... cowbirds don't belong as far as I'm concerned :old
As a kid I used to shoot the cowbirds following the horses around, with a pellet gun.

Every state has different rules. Here, skunks and raccoons along with fox, coyotes and stray cats are considered varmints and may be killed at any time. Red squirrels are small game and may be taken during scheduled hunting seasons. Cowbirds are protected.
