Surviving Minnesota!

I tried once. I really don't care for the taste of turpentine. Red squirrels aren't the problem here that they are where you live. Here you mostly only find them in the forests.
Here you find them in the woods too, they are terrible. They chew holes in buildings just to get out of the cold.

I don't understand the dislike of cowbirds expressed by some here ? I don't see them a lot but have never seen one that caused a problem ? Starling's are another story and can be a real problem.
Ralphie, glad to read that your hog slaughter went well. Seems like more work than I would be interested in, as I am not even interested in butchering my own chickens. Just have them for the eggs. It must be very difficult for you when it is time to butcher your favorite cuddling bird ?!

Cow birds lay their eggs in other birds nests. They hatch quicker and grow fast. They have a push reflex to push the others out of the nest... according to a PBS documentary...
I have seen a pair of blue birds feeding one cowbird chick. No baby Blue birds in sight
