Surviving Minnesota!

Cow birds lay their eggs in other birds nests. They hatch quicker and grow fast. They have a push reflex to push the others out of the nest... according to a PBS documentary...
I have seen a pair of blue birds feeding one cowbird chick. No baby Blue birds in sight
Yep.
I have seen that in person too.
They do it the Cardinals as well.
My grandpa always had good luck with blue birds in his yard as long as the cowbird Stayed away.
He used to always check the houses for cowbird eggs and throw them out. I suppose that's how they survive and it's part of nature..
But they can do that somewhere besides my backyard. I want to see the baby bluebirds and Cardinals 🤗

I read on Wikipedia that if the nesting birds push out the cowbird egg, the cowbirds often come back and destroy the eggs of the nesting pair. 😡😡😡

I read something from the county forest preserve that if you take one out of a blue bird nest the blue birds may know an egg is missing and leave the nest.

That's probably the same snow that snowed here day before yesterday. Yesterday was nice--got quite a bit done. Today I don't know how the turkeys are keeping themselves from blowing away. The chickens are (very sensibly imo) sticking to inside spaces. Tomorrow and into the forseeable future it's s'posed to snow. :(
