Surviving Minnesota!

Admit it you just want a rooster flock like I have.....

:gig

I topped the rest of my onions yesterday and harvested the ones that had fallen over. When I was cleaning the tops and getting them ready for dehydrating one rooster was right next to me (on the deck). I would drop the junk pieces on the deck for him, but that wasn’t good enough.
He kept grabbing onions from my basket and running with them. Luckily he couldn’t hold them real well and dropped them in a couple feet.

Silly bird, I know he wouldn’t like one if he tried it.
With the way this hatch looks to be going I just might end up with a flock like yours. Just shaking my head. I hope once I get them out of the incubator and they are all nice and dry it will be a bit better of an outcome. So far 11/22 have hatched. Of the 8 Doms they all look pretty male to me looking at white spot and leg coloring. I don’t have any that have a lot of black on their legs yet. Ralphie I’ll take some pictures when they are ready and your experienced eye can help me out!

Look at these 8 Doms. There is one egg zipping in the picture but all those white heads! Some of them have quite white backs too! A rooster flock may be a reality for me! The egg that is zipping has a dark beak so there is a bit of hope that the boys came out first and the girls knew how to wait?

Maybe your doms have mutated into white faced chickens like Herefords.

I don’t know. All I know is that to my eye there is not even one clear female! There are none with a lot of black on their legs or beak and the head spots all seem so messy. This is a batch that won’t be decided until they start to feather!

I found a buff orp. dead on Friday could have happened anytime between 730 am and 230 in the afternoon. Just over a year old. No sign of trauma. She was in the run, I let them out and left for work. They can come and go from coop and run during the day. Her comb was half purple. Would the comb turn purple before or after she died?? Just wondering if it was a heart problem?
