Surviving Minnesota!

I am going to try the Ailsa Craig onions this year.

I am going to start them from seed in the basement. I have read that is the only way to get huge onions.

I am going to try growing tomatoes on a string this year.

I plan to use these to “tie” them with.

I have a 10x26 hoop house. That really helps with long season tomatoes. I still try to stick to things under 80 days, but being able to keep stuff alive until the end of Sept is pretty nice. I start my seeds inside around March 15th and plant in the hoop house mid May. I do have frost blankets, just in case. Also, a couple 55 gallon barrels of water in the hoop house absorb heat during the day and release it at night, keeping the over night temp a little warmer than outside.
