I've yet to come across an active Sussex chicken thread, so I am hoping this will become it.
This is for any Sussex related discussions. Whether that's breeding advice/plans, or you just want to talk about your pets.

I currently keep and breed Buff Sussex. I would like to get some light hens at some point, and maybe go into Reds too.
This is Spices, who is the remaining adult hen of my line. Picture is of her mid-moult

She is currently raising 7 chicks (Father is Thor), 3 of which I will grow out possibly keeping a cockerel if there is one.

My main rooster is Thor, I only have an older picture of him. He's also moulting hard right now, so looks terrible anyway.

Rodney is my spare rooster, whom I plan to replace as he has some agression issues.

These are my four older Pullets I bought to hopefully breed.

I have a few younger pullets too, but I am waiting for them to grow so I can pick some to keep.
I also have a disable pullet, and another pullet whom I have yet to figure out whether she is pure sussex or not.

And here are some of mine, three hens, and one pullet on the left.

What do you think of this pullet? She hasn't got the best tail in the moment because she went through a juvenile molt.

This Cuckoo in the center of the photo is what I'm going to be basing my 'Cuckoo Sussex' project off. Her mum is a SS, and dad a Light Sussex x Cuckoo Orpington.

Another photo of her, although as you can see, she rarely slows down!

I now have ten Speckled Sussex bantam chicks!

There's a range in color, some are lighter than others, will that carry over into the adult plumage?

Also, some have white breasts, others are more tan or yellow!

They are absolutely adorable!
I don't know about the colouring, except I have read the ones with more white on the chest may be male.

I took photos of the chicks, individually. Two, possibly three have white breasts, six have yellow, and one is yellow all over.

I have no experience with the Speckled, but they are so precious! I would think the lighter colours might carry over.

Don't know anything about them other than I loved the color of the speckled sussex and we now have 3 chicks! lol

Would any one here bother keeping and breeding any of these pullets? I really don't like them, but would then have to try and find more to replace them
For comparison the last picture is one I bred.
