Swap gone bad~

That is so sad!
I hope the person feels really bad about ripping someone off!
I would like a PM about who did this too!
I have never run into a problem buying eggs from anyone here.

Ya know this really isn't right - people should have a feedback rating for shipped eggs if they want to sell on BYC - I really think this needs attention.

There should be one thread dedicated to who sold what and how it went. People should be able to leave a star rating or something, otherwise only the veterans with established reputations will be able to sell to people with confidence.

I personally have never had a bad experience, but it ins't fair to say that you shouldn't buy from new ppl to avoid getting ripped off - those newbies deserve a chance to sell their eggs too!

I don't recall hainvg so many problems last year on the board...

Too bad too - lots of members WANT to sell to BYC members and many times they sell for less and have higher quality than EBay. (NOt always though, but often.)

I hope the mods see that this is becoming a problem and take some action to allow a place for negative feedback.

Very interesting thread! Sure would be nice to get some feedback from the moderaters on this situation, doesn't seem fair. Of course they don't want a lot of negative comments flying around, or let people use this board to defame others, but what recourse do they approve of for people who have been unfairly burned? Should the people who aren't honest be allowed to continue to do that?

I have also had a bad experience with the auction thread on here. I sent someone $23 for eggs the beginning of March I still have not received the eggs or the money back even though they said they sent a money order on the 3rd of April. I have sent several pm's and a couple emails and they have not returned them. The last I heard from them was on April 3rd. My next step is to contact the moderators here on byc. I am out $23, I should have just threw it away!!! Someone needs to take action on these people who just take someone's hard earned money!! That is stealing! I have been more than patient! The first time they were suppose to send them they said their dog ate the eggs. Then the second time they were suppose to send the eggs, one of the birds was pecking them. Then they said they weren't going to send them at all and they were going to give me my money back....Still have no money back!!!!!!! People should not be aloud to post swaps or stuff for sale if they have no intention of following through that is just wrong!! Sorry had to vent!!!!

I'm sorry. I have had several great swaps on here. I did get one bad apple though that got my purebred cochin eggs but never sent the polish eggs I was to get. It's been several months. I did PM them several times and they said they would ship but they never did:( Now I don't even see this person online here anymore. Now I only swap with people I see highly rated or that I have had good experiences with in the past. I just write down the bad apples I have dealt with and make sure I never deal with them again either here or on ebay.

Folks, swaps and BST are at your own risk. Usually, things go well, but just because a person is a member of BYC does not mean they are reputable or reliable. We make note of the people who either do not pay for goods received or do not send goods paid for so we can see if a certain member has a pattern of bad behavior. If we receive numerous complaints, we would most likely ban that person from participating in BST or any swaps, but can you imagine trying to mediate transactions among our 27000+ members? It just is not possible.

From the rules posted at the top of every BST section:

We emphasize honesty and integrity here at BYC. We feel it is important that you practice this especially in the Buy Sell Trade area. We remove spammers quickly and request that you not offer for sale any sick or diseased birds, defective merchandise or fail to follow through on a transaction. When we get complaints on a seller or buyer, we may investigate and may ask you not to trade until such matters are resolved. If you have an issue, please try to resolve it privately. If that fails after an honest attempt, use the report button. Do not address this in open forum.
Additionally, Backyardchickens, the staff and sponsors are not responsible for deals gone bad. Our mediation in these matters is strictly as a courtesy to our members and will be addressed as time permits. Buyer Beware is a good rule to go by. Don't trade in more than you can afford to lose and do your research

I contacted a moderator and they told me pretty much that they nor i can do anything about it!! They said to buy, sell or trade at YOUR OWN RISK!..... my hands are tied..

This is correct. It is buy, sell and trader beware. We can't police everyone on the board who choses to participate. The warning is posted at the top of the section and we can't really get involved in private issues other than what speckedhen has pointed out. You can do what ever you want in your power, but it is not in our power to do it for you.

I understand that the moderators can't police everyone that sells, but if someone has been swindled I would like to know. We can only post the good and not the bad, so this is really putting members at a disadvantage. If there is not a thread (maybe the posts can be approved by the moderators) that we can refer to when we want to buy or trade eggs, then we are in a cense being fed to the wolves. I feel it is only fair that if a person is doing something shady then we have the right to be informed. I agree that the moderators should be aware and have the final say on a post where someone has been treated unfairly. Simply because in the real world some people can complain about anything and be very unreasonable! With both side of the story the moderators can make an informed decision whether or not the forum needs to be aware of an unreliable seller.

If someone wanted to have a public spreadsheet with voluntary ratings, would that in any way go against the rules of BYC?

Just a thought. That wouldn't put BYC in the mediation/management role, and it's just a reservoir of user-entered voluntary data.

I'd be interested in how people would feel about that. I don't B/S/T, but I'm interested in fair representation.

An example could be seen here:

Edited to fix a capitalization, because I'm a grammar nazi.
