Oh they are sooooo pretty!! I really wanted to buy some
but i am really into the silkies and had to tell myself no,no,no
and you no how hard that is LOL!!
My friend fell in love with them and is going to buy some from him
in the spring.
I am sure they will get up on the perch soon. I would
go out at night and put mine up there untill they finally started to do it
themselves. You might want to try that becasue they just might not have a clue. especially if the poor little things were in a cage there whole
life. who knows????

HI, i got some from him too and i was just wondering if you would
let me know when yours start laying. i would like to see if we got them from the same batch because i thought he said they were already laying and mine haven't laid a thing. maybe i misunderstood. He told you they were 4 weeks?

Give those coturnix 16 of light, they are old enought to lay, only need to be 6 weeks, but do need spring time light.

I heard that it is better not to have them under the light all the time. They said they will lay longer if you don't do this. Is this true? I just have mine in a pen outside with a tarp over it because
of all this cold wet weather we are having. So they have to have that much light all the time or come spriing they will just start laying without the light on them?
Thanks deerman.

"REJECTS", come on now, the only thing lacking about these girls is they did not inherit the mahogeny gene, resulting in a buffy/gold base color instead of a deeper brick red. Do you talk like that where the pullets can hear you? Seriously, I hope they are fitting in, and doing well for you, look good in the photos.

Regarding you cochins, I have talked to some breeders who do not want their show birds to roost. The thinking being that when the bird (used to roosting) is at a show finding itself in a pen without a proper roost, will try to climb the sides, sit on the water cup, etc. Could this be the case with your birds ? That they were never given the opportunity to learn to roost.

No, I've never actually called them rejects within ear shot. I'll try to keep quiet when I'm near them as to avoid any future need for therapy due to causing them any low self esteem issues.

That may have been the case with the Cochins. They just don't seem to realize they have wings or can jump at all. The other day one was trying to figure out how she was supposed to step over the top of a 2x4 on it's side. It was quite comical.

Does the place where these battery hens come from someone who's last name starts with a De and ends with a Mange?

Maybe so, maybe not! Or as Dr. Michalak says, "isn't that the place where you might hit chickens on the road?" I like to call 'em DeRange, myself. That's what my EMS instructor addressed a letter to: she's our EMS cheif.

I'm going and I even bought a sweatshirt so I'd be recognizable. I couldn't get a BYC hoodie like I wanted because of size and color, so I got a My Pet Fixes My Breakfast shirt. I think it's really pretty, but I guess they're for guys. What the heck, I don't have a guy in my life, so I'll wear one if I want to.

I'm excited too. I'm picking up a bantam Partridge Cochin hen and I can hardly wait. Yeah!!!!!
