Swarm capture

I captured my very first bee swarm a few months ago and was super excited about it. I can't keep bees where I am but I found a bee keeper on craigslist who gave them a lovely home.

Makes me want to keep them someday.

Temps got into the 80's today and the bees were busily working the golden rod. Pollen baskets on their hind legs laden - they would make their way home. The bee population around here seems to be rebounding. Don't know if any wild colonies are surviving or if these are all 'tame' bees.

This is my first winter with my bees. I really hope they do OK. I am new to beekeeping.

I've been using a home made sugar water feeder to help my captured swarm make it through their first winter.

It's basically a mason jar metal screwin lid hot-glued into a wooden passage for the bees with many pinholes in it. This makes it easy to monitor and change out the feeder without having to open the hive and risk "chilled brood".
