I have a free range flock of Swedish blacks. I ordered a dozen eggs from a hatchery in Florida. Two eggs were cracked which I mended with unscented white wax. Hatched 4 hens and 4 roosters... I won the President's Award at the county fair this past August. My hens keep laying even though it's almost Christmas. I'm thinking it's because they originated from Sweden

Welcome to BYC and good job on fixing your eggs for hatch :)

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 I’d suggest including your location using the guide in that link. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes

Congratulations on a successful hatch and winning an award! It's possible the reason your pullets are laying now is because they're young. Many breeds of chickens will continue to lay through their first and second winters even though daylight hours are shorter. It's usually a year or two before they experience their first true molt and stop egg production for the winter. If they're older, then you're really lucky! (I've heard some breeds do continue to lay through winter no matter their age, but I can't remember which ones)

Good luck with your flock!
