Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Hi everyone! I have a singleton SFH chick that I am hoping is a pullet...s/he is 7 weeks old and is showing quite a bit of comb...but it's pinkish rather than red. Anyway - thoughts? Here's Blizzard! (Thanks in advance!)

Here are updated pictures of the 4 chicks I posted 6 weeks ago. They are now almost 10 wks old now. They have really changed.

Beautiful birds! I take it the top 2 are roos and the bottom 2 pullets? Is there a link between the roosters and yellow legs - vs pullets and light legs? Love your crested sfh!

Thank you! I just love this breed. I HOPE the bottom 2 stay pullets.

As for the legs, it will take someone more knowledgeable than me to answer. These are my first SFH's.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! :) I only have 2 sfh - my first foray as well. One is for sure a hen - and has layed her first egg!!

But the other is a big question mark and leaning towards roo. Ah well...time will tell! They are so beautiful. Next year I'm going to try to get more!

Freckles was bought as a female, but I keep seeing "red shoulder feathers means roo", so figured I'd see what y'all thought ... 6 weeks old, I realize it is young, but any guesses appreciated! side note: (s)he is larger than the rest of my chicks its same age

Very handsome! But my guess is a cockerel.

The crest looks too spiky to be a pullet. The crested cockerels are sneaky little buggers and often take until 10 - 11 weeks old to reveal themselves.

With those wattles at 7 weeks old, this one is most likely a cockerel also, although some lines of SFH have early developing pullets so don't get rid of him yet.

Show us another pic in a couple of weeks and it will probably be evident by then.

This chick was sold to me as a Swedish Flower Hen roo... But, to me he looks nothing like a SFH. Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Hello,
I´m going to add to the confusion and disagree, Still looks like a pullet to me. I would expect the comb and wattles to be redder on a roo, and the comb spikes to be plumper, and not so fine-toothed. On a roo I would also expect the red feathers to be darker, more mahogany-like (see cree57i´s pretty boys above). Also the overall body-shape looks to me like pullet. If she is 7 weeks already, you should be seeing saddle feathers coming in the next couple of weeks if she is a he, then you´d know for sure (but be careful, new feathers can look pointy at first and be mistaken for saddle feathers). I do agree that she´s very pretty, though. Please keep us updated.

I have roos and hens both with yellow legs and with light legs. No connection I can see.
