Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Heres some photos that are on the memory stick. Above is the little crested male I sold with a pullet behind him.

Above, one of the dark pullets, this was before I put colored zip tie bands on them to tell them apart.

Above, one of the dark pullets with the one male I wanted to keep. Is he okay??

a pic of the group above. The black one, and the white one are from my mutt eggs. The rest supposedely SFH.

Above, Cindy on the left and one of the light gray pullets.

above, one of the dark pullets again, can't tell by these pics if I'm showing the same one or different one.

Above, one of the gray pullets.

Gray pullets again.

All comments welcome.

my Mutt rooster is white, his mother was a Leghorn and his daddy was a Dominique. But he didn't father these eggs. All the eggs I bought in Sanford were very light in color, mine are definately darker and I penciled on them BSL and BR. The SFH eggs were also larger in size than any of mine.

If the lady I sold Cindy to wants a different bird should I give her one?? Clearly she's not a flower hen. Should I take Cindy back so there isn't a possibility of someone breeding her and saying her chicks are pure??

I really just got the eggs to add some hens to my laying flock, and have pretty birds. I wasn't planning on selling birds for profit, I just had too many roosters.

Im not above admitting I may have made a mistake, the little gray boy COULD be from my rooster I guess. It took 3 days to hatch them all out and I couldn't set and watch them all the time. But I have nothing here that should have put out a crest and muff so Cindy not being pure is a surprise.

I thought solid colored birds were out??
Well, in SFH, the white is not actually solid-colored. You just can't see the flowers because they are the same color as the rest of the feather. There is usually a blue feather here or there, but not always. Look her over closely.

Here is one of mine

If your customer wants a refund or exchange, I would give it to her. If she is not planning to breed them, she may very well be happy with the birds she got. They are beautiful. Just make sure she is aware that Cindy is not purebred. You can't be responsible for what she does once you tell her. If she does want an exchange, I would not take Cindy back unless you have a place to quarantine her for at least a month. You can't be too careful these days.

You have some beautiful birds there! From what you have told us, I would guess the black pullet and the barred cockerel are probably the ones from your eggs. Cindy is an "oops" from the breeder - whether it be from a stray rooster or an egg mix-up. That leaves the white one which could be SFH, but you can't be positive because you can't see her flowers (does she have a single comb?). I would remove those 4 from the flock and I would say you can be reasonably assured that the rest are SFH.
