@cree57i Those are some cuties!

Some of the SFH I got this year looked exactly like those. Amazing to see how none of them came in with the same pattern and colors though.

Hi, I just got my first 2 SFH chicks! So excited to see what they are going to look like when they are grown. Does anyone know if they can be feather sexed?

I haven't heard of being able to feather sex them, so I am not sure. But the ones I had with short tails compared to everyone else have always been male. But not all males have those short tails. And most of mine with 2 exceptions, I was able to tell by combs and waddles by about 6 weeks although 2 were late blooming cockerels.

Yes, it's always fun to see how chicks turn out. Out of the 8 I have, some may look similar but not a single one is the same!

Where are you at in Oregon? I'm just south of the border in CA on the coast. I hope you didn't get them from people in Gold Beach claiming 100% organic! Those people are scammers selling mutt birds for a HIGH price....

Hope you love the SFH as much as I do. Right now I have a lap cockerel, usually hang out for a good 20 minutes. Sometimes even napping!

Hi! We just got our first chicks this year too. They were hatchlings so we did try the feather sexing but it was not correct. Well my husband got one right (I thought female and he said male). You can try it but it needs to be done in the first few days, then the feathers have grown too much (or so we hear)

Wonderful! I hope ours are as nice. We got them from GFF with some other birds. I think my husband tried to get in touch with you to get them for my birthday

Oh wait, I think that it was Lamancha that he was trying to contact. Anyway, it's nice to know that there are people closer that have these wonderful birds.

Lol, so you both had a 50/50 chance of being right. Well, they were no longer day olds by the time I got them. So not a good sample to experiment on, still I kinda like the fact that they're like a box of chocolates.

Lol yeah, good odds. We enjoyed the variety in ours too. They are such cute chicks and then they really get interesting as they grow.

Did you get your SFH in Ca or did you order them? It seems like there aren't many places on the west coast with them.

I got mine 2 hours north of the Oregon border on the coast from someone who got theirs from GFF in 2015. I am very happy with them. Price was great and the drive was beautiful! Now the hard part is choosing my keepers.

And there are some scammers selling mutt birds as SFH about 20 min north of the Or border, (I am 20 min S of Or) who got me for $20 each chick... 1 of them has a pea comb and white earlobes, the other has a blackish red comb and dark legs. Neither of them have flowers.

And the Black Jersey Giant they sold me for $10 is blue, lighter than and as flighty as my leghorn. $50 was a cheap lesson in life though. At that time I just wanted something rare. So when I found the real SFH and saw the difference plus how much the seller enjoyed hers... Well, now they are 1 of my keeper breeds instead of Lavender. Lav was too much work for breeding. SFH seem to be a great dual purpose breed!

Plus I love the eye candy appeal and if you decide to have only 1 breed, you can still tell these apart. I feel like there must be some kind of wool over my eyes if I can't find the bad in the breed. Well, we still have a long way to go until maturity.

I see lots of people selling GFF. Some ordered to many to meet the minimum. I have gotten mail order chicks 3 times. Twice from MPC and once from a breeder. For some reason the route between those places and mine is terrible so I probably will not do that again. They delivered late twice and once I could tell the babies (RIP) spent a fair amount of time upside down in the box with the bedding on top of them! 14 out of 22 from the breeder survived.

Right now I have 8 SFH. 3 pullet, 5 cockerels. Planning to keep only 2 boys. I have 40 others varying from 3 weeks to about 28 weeks. The last 14 don't have names yet but everybody else does.
