Thanks to the stupid PO but it was a great trip!!!!

My first road trip for SFH's was to meet @KYTinpusher. There have been many trips for birds since that. I'm driving 2 1/2 hours tomorrow for some eggs! Got a 3 hour trip planned in 2 weeks to meet @SOHC-FTW. What I need is a bumper sticker "I Drive for Birds" LOL!

The post office Is once again responsible for me driving tomorrow. They scrambled the first batch of eggs.

The PO is responsible for many a chick death this year in my home. No hatchery survivors in 2 shipments totaling 30 deaths. Of the shipped breeders, 14 out of 22 shipped (20 ordered) are still thriving and 1 of the deceased Lived 2 weeks and fell victim to an unfortunate accident, after spending a whole day extra in shipping more than the hatchery chicks. 4 days total.

1 of the hatchery shipments did have evidence of the chicks being upside down for at least some period of time with the woven matting for bedding on top of them and their legs poking through the holes that were meant for breathing.

To the credit of my next major PO 2.5 hours away, when the breeder made contact about them being still a day away from delivery, they did show some humanity and put water in the container that was already in the box. Thank you to some USPS workers!

Others, no thanks to you.

I will add that by the third go around I did have more experience at helping shipped chicks survive than during the first to attempts. So that may have been in the breeder chicks' favor.

Mostly I would prefer semi local. I am leery of shipping anymore. I do think the incidences take place before, between, or at San Fran airport, that's where they get on the truck heading 7 more hours this way.

Speaking of driving, I think some one is actually going to drive 7 hours each way to get some of my SFH!

I'm super excited to start hatching, and kinda hope to get a broody. But not too soon in the season as I want to give their systems a good chance to going consistently and produce better offspring ideally.

Bumper stickers are funny.... on OTHER peoples cars!

But I would have to have a bunch of them. I just put them up inside closets and in our box trailer. I just had a thought..... I can use them to decorate the inside of the coop.
