Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Being aggressive to other roosters is not a problem as he will be an only rooster in our flock.
What is a good place to order from? Should I go with Meyer? All my other chicks are from there and they are all great (except for the roos that is...).
if you only want to order Swedish flower hens then you would be better off to order directly from a breeder as they charge less per chick then Meyer. are you wanting to pick them up or have them shipped?

Thanks, minihorse! I have not been able to find any breeders around here (Sonoma) and Greenfire needs me to order at least 8, way to many! I ordered from Meyer, where I only need to get 3, and they are already on their way! I hope their journey will be quick - and their arrival not involve trying to find out the secret phone number of the distribution center and picking them up there at 8:30 at night, like last time...

I am OVER RUN with eggs right now!

You might be surprised where you find SFH. I'm in a pretty rural area and only had to drive 40 min to pick up hatching eggs. The breeder started with GFF stock. I've found a couple more not much further. It took joining local Facebook poultry groups to find them. A year ago I'd never have believed that I could get anything other than big hatchey to feed store breeds common production breeds without ordering them, now I know several sources.
Good luck! I'm eagerly awaiting my first hatch.

I am just not up for the worry of hatching eggs... my poor nerves are stretched as is... I have been looking for a local facebook group but no luck...

A FB group on SFH's? There are 3 of them that I know of. Maybe you could find someone local to you through them. Most NPIP breeders ship chicks also. Eggs can be nerve wracking. I have a bunch in lockdown right now and storms moving through. There are hatch a longs on BYC where others will help you with your hatches by offering support and advise. There is a Easter hatch a long going on right now, but there are always people ready to help you problem solve chicken problems on here (from my experience).

Yes he's a spangled McLean less than a year old. The only sfh roo I had was from you he didn't survive the off and on winter we had here I tired to nurse him I also lost my jubilee roo too it wasn't a long harsh winter but it would be 60 then below freezing the next day.

The hens did real well all of them!
