Breed standard?
there is no breed standard for swedish flower hens. the perfect swedish flower hen is just that, a swedish flower hen.
Establishing a breed standard would just ruin this breed, ruin its variety and different types it comes in.
The swedes have done an awesome job keeping this chicken the way it is, perfect as it is, do not try to come in with establishing a breed standard, for whatever purposes you might find that to be necessary.
I could compare it to the Jack Russell Terrier (www.therealjackrussell.com), which does not have a specific breed standard, but rather comes in different types, there is short legged ones there is longer legged ones, what matters more is character, hunting ability, certain features, but not an overall conformation to one specific type.
Same with SFHs, they come in different colors, etc. the only thing that could be put as a breed standard, is character, maybe combs, etc. but overall the SFH comes in a lot of different types, colors, none of them better than the other or one to be the breed standard the others to be less breed standard conform, no!

I agree. I'm afraid that if there is a breed standard that they'll lose the very qualities that make them so special. I personally think that the breed should be kept pure, but that's just my opinion. Great food for thought.

The Jack Russell Terrier is no longer a recognized breed in the AKC, due to all the impure bloodlines. They removed all the nonstandard body types, long legs, short legs, long body, short body. and took the ones that were supposed to be the right measurements and renamed them Parson Russell Terriers. To those in the AKC world, JRT are just known now as a mutt. Not trying to start anything. I just think it's interesting. I have a JRT. She's the greatest. I would like if the SFH were recognized here. Would be nice to show them. Not sure if you can show if it's not a recognized breed. I've never shown chickens before, not sure how it works. I would like to get into it next year if possible.

I am sorry, but you are very misinformed regarding Jack Russell Terriers. They were never an AKC recognized breed, due to the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America having a Copyright and Trademark on the name Jack Russell Terrier.
I have multiple Jack Russell Terriers am a member of the JRTCA (Jack Russell Terrier Club of America) and must say that your comment is totally uneducated! JRTs are not mutts, neither have they EVER been an AKC (the breed destroyers) recognized breed THANK GOD!
please, if you make comments, make sure you KNOW exactly what you are talking about!!!!!!!

I agree with the above posters re: no breed standard. I just want to keep the Flowers ad flowery as they can be.

I promise not to sell any eggs, chicks or chickens as Swedish Flower Chickens unless they really are and I'm 100% sure of it.

Anyone else?

Bleh, still waiting on my 20 SFH eggs that were supposed to be here on the 12th. I called USPS today and they opened an investigation to find out where they are. Of course they have no idea where they are. She said they usually call within 24 hours, but since tomorrow is a saturday they might not call till Monday. I'm thinking when they do arrive they'll prolly be no good. I half expect the box to be smashed and the eggs to be broken. At least I have my 22 replacement eggs in the bator.

How exciting! The huge variance in color leaves so many possibilities in this breed. Please post updated pictures soon! I'd love to see what you're getting.
How many SFH do you have now??

I started out with 7 chicks. 4 roosters, and 3 pullets. One rooster I culled as an adult because of bad toes, and split wings. Of the 3 remaining there were two Red/White and 1 Red/Gold. The 3 pullets were 1 Blue Splash, 1 Red Splash, and 1 Red/White flowered. I recently hatched 23 chicks from their eggs. The 3 pullets were in with two of the roosters. The Red/White crested one, and the Red/Gold one. The Red/White pullet went broody, so I put her in another pen with the extra Red/White rooster. I now have 7 eggs from that pairing in the incubator. I also have 16 from the Splash pullets and the original two roosters in the incubator. Presently I have 6 adults, and 23 chicks. Seven are 3 weeks and the rest are about 10 days old. Out of the 23 new chicks I was pleasantly surprised with 1 Black chick which I believe is a pullet. The others have lots of white, but are beginning to show blue, black and tan in their flight feathers so I am hopeful! Currently I am only able to post photos in my Avatar album for whatever reason. Still working on figuring that out. There is one of some of the new chicks as my Avatar now.

I have an importent question to ask you. How do you get in touch with breeders in swit. I tried and have no luck. I am an old man, land locked and do not get around very much but am very interested in sweedish chickens. paul.

Well I don't know if your asking me personally or everyone in general but I'm pretty sure most people got theirs from the original importer Greenfire Farms.
