Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Bulldogma, I understand what you're saying. I basically was saying the same thing. It's really hard to express exactly what's on one's mind when typing it out in a few seconds. Anyhow, I agree that we need to make an effort to recognize the traits that make these birds what they are.
I have one hen who's legs are yellow with a lot of black over the yellow. They are not grey. I guess, like your excerpt points out, they are black mottled. Perhaps that can be added to your description. I believe that as chicks their legs are tan, or very very light yellow. As adults they would be pale to a deeper yellow, some black mottled.
I have seen pictures of the white birds that have just a smudge of grey on them and are considered splash. I have not seen solid colored birds otherwise.
Did you find any mention of eye color? I have chicks that started out with very light grey eyes, some with very green eyes. The adults have orange to yellow orange eyes.

KKH - I have not found anything so far that suggests particular eye colors of these birds - perhaps it is because the SFH comes in so many colors that the pigment around (and within) the eye will vary depending on the color of the bird?? Most of mine seem to have greenish eyes.

Hey everyone - go look at your SFH's eye color and let us know what color they are!

So I was just wondering how I should ask the seller about sending more eggs without sounding like a B****. I have a special talent for sounding like that. I must get that from my moms side of the family!

It's really just the person sending the eggs. Either they are generally good hearted and will replace, perhaps at cost of shipping to you so it doesn't cost them anything. I have had multiple packages delivered. One was packed so tight with eggs facing any which way in multiple layers in a big box. I can't remember how many eggs but well over 20. It was the worst packaging I had ever seen. She wouldn't even consider sending me more. Said I agreed to it not being her fault for what happened during shipping. When I politely suggested that I had received hundreds and hundreds of shipped eggs, she said she had never had a broken egg before. hard to believe....

On the other hand, I've had eggs that looked like they were packed exceptionally well. the box however was damaged by the USPS ( a completely squashed corner/side of a box is gonna break some eggs!). I just mentioned it to the seller more as frustration with USPS, not expecting anything. Well, they immediately sent replacement eggs and didn't even ask for shipping money.

You can guess who I've bought more eggs from and who I will avoid like the plague when I see on of her auctions.

so, my opinion, just ask nicely if they are will to replace the eggs if you pay shipping. that's about all you can do. :)

I've enjoyed lurking on this thread for so long, I just realized I only have 1 post. Here are a a few pics of my (actually my DW's trio) of SFH.

The Crest on this girl is huge.

Then what I think is a really nice sequence of the rooster flapping:

Bulldogma - That was a really good explanation, thank you!

I really like these blue girls. She's beautiful!

My roo just went hunting ! There was a mole trail in the pen. He stood over it cocked his head and then tore up the ground. He flipped the mole out. Pecked it on the head and called over the flock ! !
