I'm going to have to move my chicks to the garage. My DH keeps stoking the fire and the heat rises to the loft. My little chicks think it's summer in Florida!!

I need to get them acclimated to the cold or else they won't move out until spring. [IMG]

Who's planning on vaccinating and deworming their SFH's? I mention this because in an earlier thread Svarthona recommended against it as
the birds in the original flocks aren't, therefore making them more disease resistent. I don't plan on doing mine, just wondering if anyone was thinking along the
    same lines?

Quote:I wormed all my chickens a couple weeks ago. A lady who bought an Ameraucana cockerel told me she saw a poo that was full of worms. I'm not so sure that's what she really saw but I think it's a good idea to do it at least once a year. Fall is a good time here as they have really slacked off on laying. I never found any sign of worms before or after - and I looked really good!

Our temperature got down to 28 degrees last week when the SFHs were 11 weeks. I was worried but they didn't even notice. My DH pointed out that their parents were hatched in Sweden! 28 degrees is probably still balmy to them. Fortunately in the Seattle area we rarely get below 20 degrees.

Anybody ordered from Greenfire and waiting? If so, any news on the next hatch date?

Icatty, I am not sure the the wait with Greenfire now, but I waited a little over a month. My chicks (now 7 weeks) are outside in a coop and they seem to be not phased by the temp. dropping at night. I do still have a light on, but I am not sure they are even sleeping under the light. I am still not sure about the genders on a few of them. I will have to get more photos posted soon. They seem to be growing a little slower than my spring chickens. Does this happen often with fall hatches/chickens? I haven't wormed or vaccinated my chicks but plan on worming all my chickens soon. I can kinda see not vaccinating but worms are more environment. Right? Also are the diseases that they would be immune to in Sweden the same diseases we have in the US. I do use DE in their coop and food.
