Here are the first two SFH chicks (Gunnar babies) at 15 hrs old...

And another... These are the first three, the remaining three are still in the bator... not as energetic, so I'm leaving them in a full 24 hrs.
7th is a slow hatch... not sure at what point I should help... I normally try to avoid doing that.

What beautiful little Gunnar babies!! How long ago did the 7th pip? I normally don't advocate helping, but lately there have been a lot of folks getting very sticky chicks that need help. Go with your gut. As long as you still see the beak moving through the hole... hopefully it will start zipping on its own really soon!

Hmmm... It's been since early this morning...
I'm checking pretty regularly. The last 3 do seem sticky, but humidity has be hovering around 77%... it was just over 70 after I took out the first 3.
7th is alive, just not progressing... I figure I won't be able to go to bed without helping...
How long is too long?

Quote: listen to him... when he gets frantic to get out you'll hear it in his voice. till then little peeps are normal. also get a closer look at the pip site. if he's pipped a bigger hole around the original pip, it's likely he's stuck... but again wait for him to tell you when he's ready. otherwise the blood vessels may not have absorbed all the way, which is usually an indication that the yolk isn't absorbed all the way either.

with the sticky chicks, I've held them under running water (about 105-110 degrees) and quickly rinsed them off some. if you do be careful to keep their heads free of the water and just run it over their backs and rub lightly. I wouldn't over do this, but a little bit to loosen any sticky gunk, a quick wipe with a clean washcloth or paper towel and put them back in the incubator/hatcher.

even if you don't rinse them, they'll fluff just fine over the next few days, it just takes a bit longer for their buddies to help out.

For all those who are hatching SFH eggs... these eggs didn't even start to pip until day 23... today is day 24.
Don't loose hope...
Thank you Red Ridge. I have 10 in the bator and it is day 22 1/2 - 23 and nothing, though DH stated he observed the eggs moving today. Maybe they will surprise us tomorrow morning.....of course it is not nice to keep me waiting......wait for it, wait for it.....ARG!

OK... looks like the remaining 5 eggs are quiet, but 7 chicks are doing well.
I took the last 4 out of the bator a few minutes ago... the last one is dry but obviously dried a little sticky, not too bad though.
So... 7 babies... quite happy!

I'm surprised how similar they all look. I'm not sure why but I was expecting differences.
It's going to be fun to watch as these grow.
I will need to reread this thread again to see when colors and sex begin to become apparent.

Am really hoping for a calico... love that color and am so partial to it... would be great to have one that looked like his daddy.

Thanks Bulldogma... will post pics in a few days after everyone fluffs out more and are more stable on their feet.

Here is my momma and babies. There are 5 in there but some were hiding!

Awww... adorable!
