Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Thank you. He's such a pretty bird! I'm hoping my boy (Sorenson) will look like him - but with the crest of course. I may have to modify the piece when my own boy grows up. LOL.

how funny -- i wish my Max had more white like this one does. but i still don't have any SFH girls, and am now waffling about whether to keep Max long-term or to keep a different breed of rooster (most likely marans or cream legbar) that i DO have some girls to go with... or, just give in to chicken math and get some more SFHs!

It would be easier to get some more SFH ;) but pullets are HTF.....this would be why I have a bunch of SFH roosters! Had to buy a bunch of straight run chicks to get the few pullets I have. Too bad you don't live closer as I have a few more red and white boys that look like they will be Soren look alikes.

I wonder if the spring pullets lay earlier. I suspect my mid-February pullet is about to begin laying, something I did not expect until late July. Her wattles and comb are very red. Time to attach the nest box to the back of their coop.

so the one that was partially hatched this morning did not make it. The belly on the chick was not fully formed, it was however fully out of the shell. Do I leave it for mama to take care of or do I dispose of it?

The four chicks hatched so far are fat and happy and tearing around everywhere. Mama is still sitting on the 2 remaining eggs so I have not yet given up hope that I may get 2 more SFH

On another note I see why people say hatching is addictive. This is so cool!!!!

A couple photos. Wish I could figure out how to resize them on my iPad. I hate to mess with the settings on the camera itself

My little blacks. The two have sort of a reddish color, and one looks like a roo and one a pullet. The gray one is still gray but looks like a roo. I'm cool with that as I have some black and tan pullets I can cross.

My Black and Blue (gray) birds do have a bit of brown on their feathers too.

I love that step photo - looks like something that belongs on a calender!
