KKH - Absolutely beautiful, especially "Sorrel"!

I know how you feel about "Darnell"

as I won't be breeding "Magnus" (my avatar, anyway!) either because of side sprigs on his comb.

As for "Blossom", I would need a closer picture of her head, preferrably side shot, to make a stab. Those crested ones can be sneaky!

OK KYT, here 'tis! I'm holding onto a thread of hope here.....

Saddle feathers? There isn't a shiny feather anywhere on this bird though.

This is a tough one. I hope I am wrong, but my gut says cockerel. One thing I have noticed in the last week or so with my crested birds, is that the pullets seem to have fluffier, wider crest feathers, while the cockerels have spiky crest feathers. Blossoms look a little spiky. Also, it looks like the wattles may be starting to come in, which if they get any bigger would be a dead give-away, as even my older pullets (15 weeks) don't really show wattles yet. Only time will tell for sure. How does Blossom act with the other cockerels?

Ingus (cockerel) - 10-1/2 weeks Johanna (pullet) - 10-1/2 weeks

Could anyone direct me to a brand of vitamins to put in the chickens' water that contain riboflavin? I am getting desperate because one of my favorite SFH girls, Sandy, seems to be experiencing paralysis of her right foot, toes, ankle. She basically cannot walk on it and seems not to be able to control her toes. She is hobbling around using her entire lower leg as a foot, toes curled up beneath her. She has not had curled or bent toes like a couple of the others. She was just fine yesterday, and now tonight can barely get around. I have her in a box with shavings in my bedroom. She is drinking and eating fine, so that is encouraging. I thought I would try the vitamins- some of you have suggested B2. Of course this could be an injury but honestly I don't know how. Also, I moved her toes and ankle and she did not react.

I live in a backwards little town with no vet in a 100 mile radius who is willing to treat poultry. I posted on the NM thread begging for info on a vet anywhere in NM, or El Paso TX, or even AZ. Don't know if such a creature as a poultry vet exists, or if one does, whether he or she would be found anywhere near here.

Sorry to panic online but I really do not want to lose this girl.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't used them myself, but I have seen Poly Vi Sol (infant vitamins) mentioned on several threads. Make sure you get the one WITHOUT iron. It contains riboflavin, niacin and B6. If you search (on BYC) Polyvisol you can find several threads with suggested dosage. I hope this helps.

Thanks KYTinpusher! Will get some today. And hopefully find a vet somewhere in this state who will treat poultry.

Look for someone that has a "small animal" practice or an avian/exotic animal practice. Most aren't going to advertise that they treat poultry since most people don't spend money at the vet on their chickens.
I have a vet here that treats everything from rats, snakes, desert tortoises, etc... When one of my chickens was injured I contacted them and sure enough they were able to see and treat her.

KKH, I would not rule out pullet just now (serious wishful thinking here she/he is SOO pretty).

Lots of things say roo but the crest is starting way forward and is sort of fluffy.......

I use "Durvet" High performance Poultry Pak. It has riboflavin. Use caution when using vitamins. A little is better and it's not something to use every day or even once a week. Once a month would be ok.
I just use it for the days water and then back to plain water.

I pulled the tags off two feeds I've used each contain vitamins supplements and riboflavin. Neither says to what amount. One is Dumar and the Other Agway Egg Producer both layer feeds.

The Agway Egg Producer gives feeding directions. (hard for me to see. I have to use a magnifying glass even with eye glasses) It says to mix with "scratch grains) but doesn't say to what degree. (Well that's a lot of help. NOT).

The Dumor specifically states it is "Ruminant Meat and Bone Meal Free). It too has feeding instructions. Both say to begin feeding layer at 18 weeks.

I had to start again before I hit the wrong key and lose everything again.

So some questions.

1. how old is she?

2. any others showing the same symptoms?

3. why do you think it might be a riboflavin problem? ( I ask for my sake since I don't know about the importance of riboflavin or a deficiency) Just wondering what are you feeding them, what kind of diet? ( I notice it just takes a day or two before there is a shell change if I over do treats like bread for scratch)

4. How long has this been going on?

5. Any chance it's just a bruise?

6. Any pain when you check her leg for breaks?
