A few of my boys I'm able to tell super early. They're combs get big and red quick. Some are late bloomers. I've never done the feather sexing. I plan on trying that when I get some of my own eggs to hatch out.

One of my pullets started laying recently!! The eggs are all more pinkish, some with lots of bloom so they have a whitish/pink look.

Now I got a question for you guys! How long did you wait to start hatching the eggs from your pullets? I've done it before, but its not something I like to do. Is this a more or less broody prone bird? Are they incubating in incubators in sweden or letting the hens hatch out their own clutches?

She doesn't have many "flowers" but she'll probably make some pretty babies with my rooster..

She's a pretty girl! The breed is not an overly broody one - something they're trying to change in Sweden. I'm afraid I can't help you with the question of how long to wait as I haven't done it before... yet...

She IS a pretty girl. I have one with similar coloring, although mine is a bit lighter. I love the light blue over ginger in the hackles. It will be interesting to see what she produces.

I have found my SFH hens to be quite broody. I had two hatches from hens this past summer by mistake, and probably would have had more if I hadn't kept chasing the hens off and collecting the eggs. The times the hatches occurred I got real busy at work and just simply didn't have time to collect the eggs- just ran out real quick in the mornings and made sure water and feed containers were full and clean.

I have heard you shouldn't let hens set, or incubate their eggs, until the eggs are full size, as hatching the small eggs will produce small chicks. I do not know if that is correct or not.
