Well tragedy struck tonight came home to dead chickens every where, odds and ends that were free ranging and whatever it was even ripped into the shelter we had for our 4 youngest SFH AND ONE ROOSTER we would not have even wanted to sell let alone lose to a predator, 3 of them were dead in the coop and one missing. we lost so many we don't even know whats gone yet, 2 Buff Laced Brahmas are still missing and 1 SFH, so so sad. I just wish I could get this predator in my sights on my 30-30. So no free ranging until further notice.Now time to rebuild.Put up stronger defenses also.

Oh my gosh... I'm so sorry to hear about this!!! You might want to check into electric poultry netting... and zap the living *youknowwhat* out of whatever tore into your flock!

So sorry for your loss. It seems like the d@*#! predators always take our favorites! This one sounds like a bear if it ripped into a well constructed coop and/or chain link, though a dog can go through chain link if they really want to. On the other hand, something that is killing for food will consume or take what it kills, not leave it laying around. That sounds like someone's pet dog --- killing for fun. Electric fencing is a good deterrent for most ground predators (as opposed to aerial.)

Nice sunny day yesterday so I finally had a chance to take some pictures of my three young SFH. Still not sure on genders. Two crested and one non crested. LOVE the colors on these chickens!





Crested mottled buff with some blue, crested black and gold and non-crested blue with buff/gold "columbian" pattern hackles and tail tips.

well yesterday morning a boy showed up at our door looking for their missing dog wouldn't be missing if I found it just not breathing all chickens r now accounted for dead or alive except 1 sfh juvenile

Some you can tell at hatch...some in a few weeks.

It depends on the bird.
