Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Some you can tell at hatch...some in a few weeks.

Cool just thought it would be good to know before I recieve my eggs!
and hatch them out!!

They r both adorable I think the crested r gorgeous. We have both and they just follow you around all under your feet sometimes a little annoying.

my Father In Law is Swedish. His parents came over from Sweden a million years ago

. We actually have one of the Dala Horse's that came over from Sweden. That's why we decided to get into swedish flower hens. My husband remembered seeing pictures and statues of speckled chickens in his grandmothers house when he was growing up. When I showed him pics of SFH, he was immediately drawn to them.

Hey folks. I sent jbarrett ten eggs, which was all I could gather at the time. He just had three hatch and die immediately thereafter. Two more seemed to be pipping this a.m. but don't know results yet. I think he began lockdown at day 18.

Anybody else had problems with SFH chicks hatching then dying? I wonder what went wrong. I suppose we should inquire what kind of incubator he used and what he did. Also, I wonder if these don't travel well. We had them overnighted to him. I wrapped each egg in a napkin, then put them in an egg carton, taped shut. I put the egg carton in a shoebox stuffed with shredded paper, taped shut. Then I put the shoebox in a larger box stuffed with shredded paper and some styrofoam peanuts.

Argghhh.

I always wrap each egg in bubble wrap. Then use shredded or crumbled newspaper to bed the eggs.
